options to killing squirrels in the bird feeder?

on topic - I used safety wire to hang my feeders from. They can't get down the small wire....oh and don't use nylon string to hang it from the tree limb either. They learn that they can't get down the wire and chew through the string on the limb and the feeder hits the ground.
I had everything good to go for about 2 years or so. Now, the tree limbs have grown enough to provide other small branches close enough for the rat to jump from the branch to the feeder.
Also, I have the squirrel proof feeder with the trap door that closes when they step on it. The birds do not like that feeder and almost never use it. - JKE
