Opinions on Flu Shots
The Flu shot prevents (key word) the infection of about 130 known influenza virus strains. At last count there were about 56,000 potential viruses that cause various types of flu. So, at best the flu shot prevents one in 431 flus.
Not to get all left-wing, but there is a reason that western medicine is the largest business in the US - convincing us that we need things like this. As a pharmacy tech and a medical assistant, I can tell you that its all money. Those free samples of meds you get at the doctor's office? They are there for the same reason as the free chips and salsa on display at the grocery store. The doctor gets more free samples based on how many prescriptions he/she writes. Its sales. Its business.
You would be so far better off taking vitamin and herbal supplements and having your body fight it off for you than you would taking a vaccination that does it for you. That's like testing a student and giving him the answers. He won't learn anything except how to copy answers.
Taking vaccinations is like getting stabbed to prepare you for what its like to get stabbed. Why not wait until you GET stabbed before taking treatment for it?
Keep in mind, these are the same doctors who prescribe antibiotics for a viral infection. Antibiotics are for bacterial infections, but drug companies smile when you give "preventative" antibiotics. It lines their pockets.
I was a sickly kid, but for the past 10 years I've not taken a single antibiotic, and the only prescription drug I've taken was Prilosec (which I don't do anymore). I've been sick (cold/flu) ONCE in 10 years. I had a sinus infection last summer that I cleared up in three days with salt water in my nose.
So I think you can guess that my experienced medical opinion is "hell no."
Did you know that the same drugs you buy here that cost hundreds of dollars sometimes cost pennies in Canada? The drugs aren't expensive, the drug companies and insurance companies along with dimwitted doctors make them expensive.
