old 20lb propane bottles
ok guys what can these old BBQ bottles be used for. I have 3-4 of em that are too old to fill now. Should I use em as air tanks on my compressor or???

they work great as air tanks you could even put a pair on a separate leg of a system, fill them and then shut them off, air in case your compressor ever goes bad.

If they are too old to fill with propane why would you put 120+ PSI in them to have a bomb laying around.
Cut them in half and make flower pots for the wife. They like stuff like that made from old tires, propane bottles and tree stumps!

Actually, it's not the tanks that go "bad" it's the valves on top.
If you did a bit of searching you could take them in and have them re-certified.
There is a place around here that will screw in a new valve, and do a vacuume purge and stamp the cylinder for another 10 years for around $15

They also make excellent reservoirs for small hydraulic systems. take out the valve, add the appropriate pipe fittings, clean them out good, and there you go.
We have used them for oil reserve on 1 ton dump decks for years.

Before scrapping em, punch holes in em (like DmaxEter said).
