ok help here what do I do?
Last night around 12:30 am we hear a noise outside. Hour later it gets the best of me and I gotta see what it was 'cause now I hear some comotion. Get up look out front window to see neighbors truck lights go off him get out and go to his frontdoor. I notice that at this time the lightpost at the end of my drive is layin over, smashed. Go runnin out with apair of shorts on yell to neighbor what gives??? He yells back his truck slid out of drive and our light pole "blew overin the wind" wasn't slippery wasn't windy. Wait a while go look at rear of his truck and he has a tail light out. Come back look at mine DENT IN MY BUMPER!!!!! his tail light lenst lays on my driveway under my bumper.... That no good drunk hit my parked truck! Figure I don't want to be a schmeg about it and I didn't call the police as he would most likely loose his license over it and we have to live accross from each other, gotta give him a chance to own up and pay up for damages so I left him a message at home 100 am this morning. I was hunting in the rain all morning come home just now and he is out, no return call from him yet. Good thing I took several pictures last night of his bumper light and plate and my bumper and his tail light in my drive. I have the pieces so they won't disapear....... when do I give up being the nice guy and call the police????? I figure I give him 30 minutes from when he gets home and I am calling him, if he denies it I will call the police, they know his address well as it is so they should be more than happy to come by. where's the rant button I need it........ rainedallmorningdidn'tseebutonedeerandsixwethunter smikoutthirstyforacoldone
the first dent hurts the most....seriously, that sucks. At least you know who it was. My girldfriend car was backed into when we were Christmas shopping....cracked bumper and no one to pay for it.
Good Luck.
Good Luck.
Understand the ???? in your mind, but for me there is only one answer. Pick up the phone and get a drunk driver off the road.
Nobody ever said you had to like your neighbor. (Yea, I know) Just hits a little close to home.
Good luck with your decision, but bet you end up doing what's right.

It's best to try to work it out with him amicably. Getting the cops involved will cost you both more in the long run. How mucy damage is there? You could also sue him in Small claims court.
My back bumper is 6" channel steel. To bad you didn't have that! He's have more than a busted taillight and you'd have maybe a paint scratch.

bumper is dented, visible at twenty feet away, as for the light at end of drive, wa about 300 bux b4 instalation, that is a total loss, my truck is just breakin in, 10k miles, I didn't buy a forty two thousand dollar truck to drive around w a dented bumper..... if I wanted lumpy I would have bought used!
Tell him that you wont call the cops if he writes you a check for a thousand bucks. And that youll return whats left over after the repairs have been made. I agree your truck is new and you definitely need him to fix what he did.
Jeez, I woulda lost my patience and put him an a wheel chair. Especially with a spankin new truck. But thats what anger management is for...
NE who, try to settle it without the cops. I find cops only cause more trouble.

I hate neighbors like that! Drunks are the worst!
I had my truck for a few weeks when it was hit in my yard. My neighbor, sober, backed right into it. I had to have the entire passenger side bed replaced. Truck was in the shop for 2 weeks! I wound up going through my insurance company, as he had no insurance. He repaid me by doing some excavating work that I needed done. It worked out in the long run, but you sound like you may have deeper problems.
This guy sounds like trouble, play it cool and see if he comes around, give him till say 6pm tonite. I don't know this guy, but I have run across some real loons in my time, and I hate confrontations with people (drunks) I have to live with/next door to. Tell him you "have" to call the cops, as you need a police report for the insurance company, who you have already contacted, both your home owners and auto. That may just make him come around and do the right thing. If not, call the cops, as you will need a police report to fix all of the damage. The ball is in his court, and you are just doing what you have to do. And when you call the cops, don't make to big of a deal out his behaviour, unless you are willing to put up with all the grief that comes from an idiot neighbor.
Hopefully this will work out, and you won't have to move. Been there, done that.

Yea, I try to stray away from that option. Some guy hit my mom at a party, I snapped, broke his legs, arms, knocked all his teeth, broke his nose and put him into a Coma. Thats about the time they chucked me into a cell for a while...
all well, its all in the past. happily...

LOL. I'm usually never like that, and have a very nice disposition. You've gotta push me pretty hard to crack. But you just dont mess with a 5'10" WOP, who can bench 350 lbs, and is a 5th degree blackbelt in karate.
You can say I'm left alone when I'm "Mr. Crankypants".
I'm pretty mellow most of the time, and have been know to be just a big softy. LOL

Personally if I had the chance to get a drunk of the road I couldn't live with myself if I didn't. What happens if the next time he hits something it's not parked and someone dies? How will you feel about that, knowing that by keeping your mouth shut you let it happen?
Ahh yes the question of conformity. Do you conform and to nothing, or do you get that guy off the road? FYI its better to be yourself than be like everyone else. So do the right thing.
