Officer survival video
Officer survival video
If you are or were a police officer, this is very hard to watch. It
> is an example of today's new politically-correct officer, trained
> to just kiss somebody's *** even when faced with death for
> fear of law suits or reprimand.
>
> Notice that this officer's last word was "sir." Can you believe that? Sir??
>
> The jerk should've been dropped right where he stood as soon as
> the gun came out. If the officer had done that instead of worrying about
> being sued or reprimanded later - he'd still be alive. Tragic and sad.
> The blame goes to whoever trained him.

I agree it's gotten pretty silly. But, for every cop death there are probably a hundred or more firearms situations that are defused without any death. You never know if the person is going to pull the trigger or not. Less than lethal helps in these scenarios but officers really need to be able to make the call to escelate to taking life when a firearm is presented.
I put no blame on his trainer. Some people, no matter how much law is behind them, just can't take a life. It's unfortunate the criminal called the bluff.

Unfortunately, this officer lost control long before the guy raised his gun. I believe it was a pre-determined, high risk/known danger stop. This video has been used frequently for training on what not to do. The shooter was a combat vet from nam if I remember right.
If someone has a gun and are told to drop it, they should be given one very brief chance to comply, (if it's even possible), and if they don't, they should get shot. No more yelling, screaming, reasoning with, talking to, calming down or anything else. And that should be the case for any command an officer gives. Comply or get shot, whether it be with a taser in a non-firearm related incident, or by a sidearm meant to kill. People know that this political correctness is what is running the world and they push it to the limit and work it to their advantage. It either has to stop or the cop killings will continue.
The cop is still breathing at the end of the video. Are we sure he died? If he did that sucks big time. He either didn't have what it takes or his training and/or follow up training was very poor. The guy looked like he had a .30 carbine which some still carried in Nam but very limited use. It jammed like one too. I wanted to climb in the screen and take care of the guy myself so bad. So many things went wrong where would you begin? This is sad.
What we heard was called 'agonal' breathing. It's not really breathing at all, but what a body does when in the stages of death. Picture a fish opening its' mouth and gills after you've landed it and it's laying on the ground. Same thing basically.
That sucks. Did they ever catch the scum son of a biscuit?

As Red stated, this video has been used in training classes frequently.. to "blame" this on any sort of political correctness is ignorant and short sighted.
This officer made SO many mistakes that its hard to begin critiquing them all.
Bottom line is he was un-prepared, and when the situation escalated, he was unable to react to the threat appropriately.
If you are to "blame" anything, it is the officers mind-set and lack of preparedness that should be looked at.

I never like to arm chair quarterback.....but from my observations and assumptions(yeah I know what they say about assumptions) The officer failed to utilize the escalation of force ladder that was or should've been at his disposal....things like verbal didn't work, so he's justifiably allowed to use the next level, these days that would mean tazer, physical direction/impact weapons, and of course ends with DPF when the subject produces his weapon and fails to follow verbals....
It's a very sobering video and sad.

Agonal breathing is only a benefit when there is someone on scene actively treating them. Not enuff air is being tranferred to save the brain.
The deputy died, and yes we have also used this video as training. The deputy had just been reprimanded for pulling his gun out too soon a few weeks before, so he might have been hesitant to use it this time. Having said that, I would have shot this guy as soon as I saw anything resembling a gun. Sorry if some of you don't agree with me but I don't care because at the end of the day, I will do what I have to in order to get back to the house at night, PERIOD.

I would have shot him before the first F word flew. When someone charges a officer like that you can't blame the officers for using there gun.
Can't help but feel sorry for his family if they saw the video

I guess for me like many others, if you draw a gun or any other type of serious weapon against an officer, you should be shot. Plain and simple.
I am far from being a LEO but I have heard the "Suicide by Officer" also. I have seen a few videos where the police are trying to negotiate with a person carrying a gun and trying to be shot. I say shoot em!! What happens if the gun they have is truly loaded and they quickly point and shoot and get lucky enough to kill an officer before they get killed?

Yes. Or if you run after being told to stop. Or for anything else an officer tells you to do for that matter. As soon as people got used to the idea that they'd be shot for non-compliance, the carnage would go way down.
