Northern Az?

My wife and I have been looking and thinking about moving to Northern AZ. My inlaws currently live in Yuma and I'm looking for a cooler environment than that!

I would like some more information from those of you who live there.

Thank you for your responses.

Usta live in Globe (not in the North). I liked the Snowflake area and also up around the Grand Canyon. Gets warm in the summer but you also get a good snow once in a while.

I just sold a small 80 acre ranch in Kingman. Cool December through February, but hot other than that.

Prescott is very nice. If I purchase in AZ again it will be around Prescott.

Just not much for jobs in any of those places, if that is part of the plan. Show Low, Taylor, Heber-Overgaurd are all nice and you can find decent prices. Prescott area is move expensive. Flagstaff is not bad. Williams is one of my favorites. North of that towards the Grand Canyon are numerous lots, but it all depends on what type of vegitation you like.

Ok guys I'm a house painting contractor with 25 years plus experience in Custom homes. I do not do tract type work EVER as tract painters are hacks.JMHO!
I may be one of the few craftsmen who knows what that means. I'll bring my business with me ( To where?).

I currently live in an area just east of Sacramento surrounded by several high end
communities but I keep having this feeling of spinning my wheels with the constant bombardment of government agencies, taxes, cost of living, housing prices, regulations, subserviant legislators, $3.10 per gallon diesel prices, off the hook gun control laws, and of course Ahnold- Democrat in Republican clothing. It is becoming more and more apparent that my wife and I do not belong in this state any longer! I'm done busting my butt just to get by!

I need a large enough community to have high end homes and still have a family oriented atmosphere, with good schools. (I have an oops! on the way) -happily a dad again! I'm not about to raise my kid in this hole of a state!

Any suggestions, I'm currently looking into Prescott, Flagstaf, and Sedona.

All of your replies are much appreciated.

Rick

I know what you mean. We lived in FL took the job in AZ cause FL I couldn't find any thing that paid decent with 50 miles from home! Az worked good, got stuck in a rut, and decided to try OR. Did a COL comparision between AZ and OR. IT seemed that maybe OR was about $100 more expensive than AZ. Ok not bad we're moving. Hell that dang report was wrongo! AZ much cheeaper. Not sure on Notherne AZ other than I liked the area better than Phoenix and Chandler area. Not too sure on jobs up there either. The wife liked Wilcox? I think. It up north also, maybe it was Witman?? I gotta ask her again. Good luck

Whitman is just north of the Phoenix...

Runamuk, you'll find plenty of high end houses in Prescott. That town is town is booming right now and COL will be high. Not compared to Sac. but not small town COL either. Prescott you'll see lower than Phoenix temps during the day but at nite it cools off nicely. Prescott is a great town as far as I can tell from visiting several times a year.

Let me know if I can get you any info on local towns your interested in.

Runamuk ...... congrats on the new addition headed your way !!!!

Like was mentioned above about ShowLow, Taylor and Heber ... they have the small-town appeal. I used to know some people up in the area who loved raising their kids in Show Low. As for jobs ... honestly couldn't tell ya.

I like Payson and surronding region. Many of the smaller northern areas are exploding with growth. Heber-Overguard to Showlow is nuts with new construction. The Rodeo-Chediski fire helped that along very nicely.

Like was mentioned above, lots of us hicks, but thats the way we like it. When you know and get along with your nieghbors, leave your house unlocked when you leave, keys in the truck overnight and not worry thats a town of hicks where are you at?

My parents live in Fort Mohave, and a few weeks ago, it was over 130. Jobs are not very plentiful, but the scenary is nice. A nice place to visit September - May, but I don't care too much for it in the summer.

I've lived in Phoenix since 1967, so I guess that makes me qualified. #1. Don't even consider Phoenix! Seriously, you might as well move to New York City. #2. Our property values have gone skyrocketing. Pretty much anything you look at has literally double in the last 3-5 years. You won't have any problem finding work, from the city to the mountains. My cousin is a contractor in Show Low and he's sceduled 2 years out!
All the places mentioned are nice, but you might consider Tucson. Believe it or not, it's quite cooler than Phoenix, and they've managed to keep the small town feel. Lot's of hunting and fishing around, and culture if you like that stuff too. Email me if you have any questions. Good luck!

I would say Payson or Prescott. I have a friend that does stucco in Prescott and it is booming in the higher in market. No offense but it is all the Cali yahoos moving in . From either place there are numerous surrounding communities to provide work. Williams (just north of Prescott) just announced Six Flags (or someone) will be building a large theme park. Should provide a pretty good surge.
