New Yahoo policy?

I belong to a few Yahoo groups. The owner of one of the groups sent everyone this message:
Yahoo is beginning to establish what they call "web beacons" to
track where yahoo users visit on the web. It`s similar to
cookies on your confuser and lets yahoo know what your looking at
and in turn has something to do with directing their advertisement
dollars. They are letting us know this because they have too.
If your not interested in yahoo tracking you, then you can opt-out
at this link and you`ll be instantly opted out of their little
scheme.
There was a link provided to click, I clicked it and a Yahoo page popped up and said I was opted out.

Is this new, or has this been out for a while. Anyone else on a Yahoo group get anything like this? I never remember getting any official info from Yahoo regarding this practice.

I think it's been out for over year or so.

No, Yahoo never informed anyone, apparantly the original "I agree" thing you click on when you first get Yahoo says to read the rules from time to time (kinda like here ) and in those ever changing rules they slipped the beacon thing in.

Someone actually read them then put the word out what Yahoo was up to, and it spread like wildfire.

Yes, thats been out for a while. I remember when they first slipped it in I was notified be the list owner what they were up to. If I remember correctly, you need to go to one of the yahoo option pages and opt out of it, all it takes is unchecking a box. Or at least thats all it took a couple of years ago, but that was then, might not be able too now.
