Evenin' All!

Had a good sleep today. Woke up to decent weather (5* and light snow [cool]) and the might "O" on the tube. Swung into Lowes on the way to work to pick up a few more things to finnish off the remodel and paint of my daughter's room for her birthday. I'll get that done in the AM when I get home.

13ALPHA- How'd the home inspection go? I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

Navey's cruiser is a good story. Hard to imagine that they ran aground on a known shoal. Some one is haveing a VERY bad day.

The next pot is on the burner. It's not as aggressive as Scotty's but you might have to put a lid on you cup to keep it in there for very long.

Yeah, people don't realize that there are even quite a few trains at the bottom of Lake Michigan. The ferry owners(railroads) seemed to like to try getting one last run of the season in November, hit a storm and have to dump the load to save the boat. Here's a good sight for the great lakes area history if you haven't found it yet. Select the museum link.

I like researching the shortlines like I use to work for before goin to the Class I. My favorites are steel hauling roads. I worked for EJ&E, we had a sister company that work at Great lakes Work in Detroit call the Delray Connecting RR. My company use to have connections to the Detroit Toledo and Ironton (CN bought it up), The Missabe (CN bought up), Bessemer (Bought up i think by CN), now the EJ&E has been bought by CN. Little by little the shortlines in america are being eaten up by the major companies. The J played a big part in the history of my area, sad to see most of it will see the torch.

I remember seeing a lot of DT&I going by my house in Lansing after Grand Trunk bought them out. Now it's nice to see an occasional blue and red GT, but I think those days are gone. I even remember a particular GT f9 before it was repainted to CN. We had a GT overpass that as long as I can remember had Grand Funk painted over it. I like looking up the depots and survivng cars in that virtual museum, and when I get up north fishing, I try to slide by and take a look. A lot of our RV/snowmobile trails are on rr grades. Michigan's full of fallen flags.

Theres a few of those old GT Geep 38's runnin around still. CN uses them as local and yard power. I see them once in a while still runnin through town, the CN (Ex GTW) mainline run right though my town. I know a couple guys that use to work for the GTW in Battle Creek, all are relocated down here now to work in chicago because CN closed Battle Creek shops.

Claude, if you have something in mind, search the name on E-bay. If nothing, go back timt to time, something will be there. Look in that link I posted too. They referance a lot of interurbans. I have a keyfob that was my grandfathers for safety, when he did a short stint driving one.

I remember seeing them up to 6 deep pullinf the auto cars, won't see that around here now. I use to live close to Oldsmobile and the old Diamond Reo Plant. GT served Olds. Had a Conrail (ex NYC) spur in the backyard that had served REO. But primarily served Fisher body. Chessie (orig Pere Marquette) had a small yard outside motorwheel on the north end of town.

They were a workhorse, that GP38 was one good puller same with its sixaxle brother the SD38. I use to sit with my great uncle when i was little and watch the GT go by dads business. Now its all intermodal trains, coal racks, and sometimes a mixed freight headed by GE dash 8's and 9's or SD70's. Sometimes the occacional SD50 or 60 covered wagon, Geep 38, or SD40 rolls though. Those older units always catch my attention.
