New truck! How do I get it in the garage?!

Love my new truck...Hate my garage door opener!

The garage door opener motor unit hangs down too low! I need a couple more inches of clearance.

Does anyone know if there is a garage door opener that mounts ABOVE the chain & rail rather than hanging below??

Right now I have to give up the luxury of automatic opening so I can park the truck out of the weather..I'm more than willing to do so, but being lazy I'd rather find another solution..

Any sugestions besides a garage 'remodel' & installing a higher door thus ending up with the opener motor unit higher?

You could always let air out of the tires. ;D

You can get commercial openers. A bit pricey but will give you overhead clearance.

There are many low clearance doors on the market. there are even some that roll up but you'll lose your opener. Check with your local overhead door company, they will have many options for you. If that doesn't work try the air thing.

Now why didn't I think of letting the air out of the tires!

My problem isn't garage size - I've got 2 feet ABOVE the door..

Oh well maybe for now what I'll do is just leave the opener drive unit off & suffer with opening the door manually (truck clears the actual door opening with 3/4 of an inch to spare!) and look at putting in a larger (higher) door in the future.

There's a door opener at Lowe's. I think it's a Wayne Dalton... it mounts on top of the door.. or on one side of the door... something like that... it's pretty sweet actually... ;D

If it's a chain type door you can just put a little more chain rail angled upward to the position where the motor is now, splice in a bit of chain and mount the motor at the end of the added piece of rail- this makes the motor go further into the garage and further up. Shouldn't cost a fortune.

I think if you bribe Lary with a sandwich and coffee, he'll bring a stool and open the door for you, just honk the horn when you get home.

Call a garage door installer, he should be able to get the opener to a minimum of 12"-14"off the ceiling.
