New spy in the sky puts brake on fast drivers

Just read something that really annoys me. What about you?
To me speeding does not necessarily cause accidents, but it is the bad drivers that cause the most accidents. So if I am right, why don't the authorities do a better job of making sure that drivers are properly trained before issuing a drivers license with a driving test every few years?

The number one cause for accidents is people that are driving slow. I guess I should have told that to the cop when he clocked me at 90 in a 70.

I could see this being beneficial in certain areas (school zones, etc.), however, I'm not very keen on the idea of blanket use.

That little POS would be the first thing I rip out of the car/truck, before the muffler!!! THese people mean to tell me that I pay $30-50 thousand dollars for the car, but I can't say how fast I get to go! I'd rip it out first thing! What's next, cameras in the bedroom watching us?!?! Talk about an invasion of privacy and a restriction on my fun!!!

They need a device to get the moron out of the center lane in a 70MPH zone that's going about 50MPH causing everyone else to slowdown and get around them! I would think that's the cause of most problems, and not the majority all going roughly the same speed. Of course there are the idiots too that just can't stick w/ the rest of the pack and have to push it even faster...

Should something like this become an actuality, (God I hope not) I'd like to see how all the cars that travel with "a police escort" will go 90 in a 50 zone. You know what I mean the mayors, governors, the usual hypocrites that NEVER go by posted limits. When was the last time you saw a state trooper go NOWHERE in the left lane at the posted speed limit?

Now I need a chilll pill...

I would tend to agree that very slow drivers can cause problems, but so can very fast drivers. Having said that, the most dangerous thing I see here in North Carolina are the school buses on the highways. They are required here to drive no more than 45mph no matter where they are, and that causes big problems on the freeway where everyone is doing 70mph. I can't tell you how many times I've seen someone almost rear end a bus. You have to pay real close attention to them because traffic will bunch up behind them, and then people attempt to dart in the lane next to them to get around. That has happened to me before where I had to slam on the brakes because some idiot decided not to check before trying to dart around a school bus. Granted, people need to be more careful but the reality is that they are not. Given that, I would think it much safer for a school bus to do closer to the posted limit. Maybe limit them to 60mph or something. 45mph to me is just too dangerous.

"makes it difficult to press the accelerator." thats why you hold it down on the floor before you reach the posted speed limit

I'm not so sure that high speed is as responsible for accidents as inattentive drivers are. You see more wrecks at slow speeds caused by people not paying attention to where they are going than you do at highway speed.

Proof of this was evident in my trip to Ramstein this weekend. After driving an hour and a half at well over 110mph (and being passed at that speed) ... I saw no accidents. Everything was very smooth and fluid ... but once I got off the autobahn and into the stoplights and stores etc ... BAM 3 accidents within 2 miles.

I believe in retesting every couple of years and taking driver refresher courses resulting in lower insurance costs. Oh yeah .... and JACK UP THE SPEEDS ON THE FREEWAY !!! 55-70 mph is sleeping speed

I read a study once that basicly concluded that drivers going faster (within reason) were safer because they were more concious of the inherent danger of driving, and careful to avoid it. Because hey knew that if they had a wreck it would not be a fender bender.

The people going slow and not paying attention were the ones having wrecks.
