New rifle for Christmas

Got a new rifle from my dad for Christmas. It's a Winchester Model 70 chambered in .270. Gonna use it for deer hunting only, most shots are 100-200 yards and an occasional 250-300 yd shot. Anyone give any recommendations on a scope?? Probaly no more than 300-350 bucks??

Leopuld VX-II.

Hit the pawn shops, you can usually find them for a couple hundred.

One of the best scopes made for the money. Guanteed for life, even if you didn't buy it. Send it in and it's covered.

I have had 2 Bushnell & 1 Tasco scopes fail in the field. Never again will I buy a cheap scope.

I missed a 32 point buck too!

I agree with leupolds,

best scopes money can buy (well, reasonable that is, u can get swarovski for much more money and much better quality) Dont count out tho, Nikon buckmasters, redfields or weavers, i have all of each on several rifles, and have all been very good 150 dollar scopes... for the 3x9 field

For the 250-350 yard shots u dont need more than a 3x9, or a 4x12 is my prefrence, but i dont shoot past 250 yards...

size really depends on what kind of terrain you hunt in.
I hunt in alot of brush and heavy woods so I would go with a 3-9 and keep it on 3.
If your area of SD is mostly open, you mgiht consider a 4.5-12 X 40. I wouldn't go over 40 on the objective unless your hunting at night.

I use Leupold 3.5-10x. I use 3.5x majority of the time, unless I am looking at something with a solid rest.
All the Elk I have shot and killed I have done with the .270.
the 3-9x is a Vari-XII and is cheaper than the Vari-XIII 3.5-10x.

If I remember correctly, the erector tube is different, more lenses, and better coatings. I could be wrong...it's been a while (15 yrs about) when I researched it. It is probably different now.
I believe they have a new Rifleman's model out now.

I have had good luck with Burris, another US made scope with a lifetime warranty.

I agree 100% on cheap scopes being a waste of time and money.

You wont go wrong with Leupold, Nikon, or Burris scopes. If you want a fixed power, for your price range the Super Sniper from SWFA cant be beat.

I have a Super Sniper 10x Mil-Dot side focus on my mini-sniper AR-15. I like it!

slightly of topic but i bought a Savage Arms .22lr rifle and scope. Got it home from my outfitter took it ouf of the box stood it up against a tree, it fell over and the dang trigger guard which to my surprise was plastic broke off. Now granted i only bought this bolt action for squirrel or plinking that sort of thing but sheesh a plastic trigger guard....and savage has a great rep?????
