New Here :D

Hi my name is Oscar, im 17 years old, and i own a 1998 dodge ram 2500 cummins 12 valve turbo diesel. As of mods i have a K&N cold air intake, straight piping leading into 6" Grand Rock smoke stacks (Mitre Cut), here at a local performance shop we removed my fuel plate (i dont know what i would call that), and also tapped my turbo wastegate. I love the site, and feels great to see many other cummins diesel enthusiasts cause in my city there is only a handful lol. Ipost pics of my truck later on once i have a chance. Thanks
-Oscar

Wow - 17 and a 12Valve Cummins. when I was 17 I had a Ford Courier with just over 80 bhp off the flywheel, and maybe, possibly, a 2-barrel carberator. At least, it was plenty hard to get tickets with it....

Can you run a 12 valve with no fuel plate? How would the govener work?

Yeah you can, I think it requires a bit of "footwork", and I don't think its recommended to do though.

Old wives tale

with yes and no being a divided answer. As diesel stated yes you can do it, but you must adjust the governer arm so that it will not dive under. It can be an expensive consequence if it is done. But there have been some who run plateless with no damage and that i know of, only a couple of cases that i have read about where the pump was damaged.

I have ran plateless and all the truck did was smoke more. Power gain was negligable over a 100 plate or a zero plate. I have run them both, and currently run a 10 plate, for daily driver reasons, and still plenty of power.

Again my theory is simple, if plates are such a bad thing then why do the top dog horsepower 12 valvers run them? Jim Fulmer has over 800 horses with a six plate! that takes talent to get!

Id rather be safe than sorry and run a plate, besides, a zero cut deep is the same as runnin no plate..

But if someone is runnin no plate and/or no gauges, he or she has no idea what the heck they are doin, and will cause meltdown soon enough.. wouldnt wanna be you if thats the case...

but to each his own...

Rick
