New "commuter car"
New "commuter car"
I picked Mom's car up last Sunday and brought it to its new home.
1986 Dodge Aries SE

I still need to pop the Left fender off to fix the only dent, and get the front end aligned after just replacing the two front axles due to torn CV boots.
....and NO, the speedo has NOT "rolled over".....that's the original milage.

My Mom bought one of those about 5-6 years ago for a beater. I think it had around 15K miles on it when she got it. Lasted abut 500 before the trans gave out.
Chrysler (as we know) was not much on trannys back then.

Unfortunately, that's how I got this one.
Mom passed last August.
Dad bought for her it brand spankin' new in '86.
It has been to the dealer ONCE since new for service. (stalling problem that drove me nutz for a week....bad distributor pickup)....other than that one time, I'm the only one that has worked on it.

Sorry to hear about your Mom. That's cool they had it all that time, unusual in today's world, right?
My aunt had the Honda sitting in the driveway for 5 months after she passed away, just wasn't ready to get rid of it I guess.
It's been an absolute LIFESAVER for me since getting it. I got it with 107K on the clock, she's at around 144K now. Literally a daily driver for me.

I hoping to use it instead of the truck for commuting and around town as it's supposed to get high 20s for mileage on regular unleaded instead of the mid teens that the dually gets.
It spent most of its life sitting in the garage, I need to get a good coat of wax on it before the weather gets to it.

My grandfather bought a Dodge Spirit brand new in '89. When he died in '98 it had 18k on it. We gave it to his sister because her Hyundai Excel was falling apart, when she died in '03 it went to her grandson and his wife (Lutheran ministers) with 25k. AFAIK it is still their "good" car.

my wife has a 92 dodge dynasty kinda like that one and she has 210k on it and has never need a major repair. the only thing i've done to it is put a new tail light lens on it because someone knocked it out
Nice ride - sorry to hear about your mother...
Have to hope it simply keeps on ticking along. I enjoy hearing about cars that really do have a story. It will bless you mother that you're driving it.
