New career help
Well I have just got laid off from my job driving a tri-axle dump truck and I think its time to find a new career. I like driving a truck but dont find it rewarding and cant see very much room to move up. I would love to go back to school but cant afford to take a pay cut with a mortgage, truck payment, ext, ext. I am trying to get a job as a paid FF but its very hard with lots of competition. Working on it very hard. So I have been thinking of painless dent repair. I have alot of background in body work and I know I can do this part or full time on my own. Now my question to anyone doing this is do I really need to do a training program or can I just buy a set of the tools and dvd with alot of practice on old body body panels then hit it hard and make some cash. Also how much could I realistically make doing this? Can I support my family? Thanks for the help. I am lost and feel like a piece of EDIT sitting on unemployment. Thanks for the help

The problem is I really dont want to drive a truck anymore. After being stuck driving on I-95 in southern CT all day 6 days a week for the past 5 years blows. Really dont want to do it anymore. And the pay sucks

Bodyshop type stuff seems to be pretty competitive around here, and slows during the downturn when people don't fix little dents and scrapes.
Around here, anyway, there seems to be quite a few windmill related jobs that pay pretty well. An experienced CDL driver with some mechanical aptitude might get you in the door...
