Who is our local GPS nut?
I got a Nuvi 200 for Christmas. Outside of telling me where to go. what can it do and what is required software to add to it or my computer to communicate with it?

I don't know about the Nuvi, but my Garmin tells me where there is fuel, places to eat at, banks, hotels, camping spots, stores of all kinds, and on and on.

Bought my wife the Nuvi 205. I've never used road navigation GPS units. All my experience lies with the seagoing units with navigation chart cards.

Looks like I am going to have to come down there and spank you. Or maybe feed you some toad juice. You can not hide I have a GPS.

This is all you need to find out everything you can do with it. You can even click on the EXTRAS then SERVICES and look at different free things you can add. Like custom vehicles... I didn't find any 2006 White Mega 4X4 though!

Download and install Garmin Communicator from the Garmin website. Once that is installed, you can then send the unit waypoints from Google earth or LocalLive (Microsofts map site). Just pick your point and when you see the send button in either program, there will be an option to send to GPS.

the best part is DETOURS.

the signs in NC over Turkey Day said
"road construction - expect 7 mile delays"

and there were WRECKS everywhere.

we used the detours, and a 4 hour trip took 6, instead of 10.

nah, we just pulled off and hit AVOID HIGHWAYs and took it from there.

XM has Traffic (google it) but coverage is limited

MSN direct has Traffic somehow, but it's $$

we just hit AVOID HIGHWAYS, SHORTEST ROUTE,
and RECALCULATE.

I have noticed mine will occationally want to jump off the highway and take the old highway for a few miles when set on shortest route.

I refuse to believe my speedometer is off...

That was the first thing I checked. My frontier is 3 mph @ 65 off and my wifeys xterra is 2 mph @ 65 off the other direction.

Try this site: poi-factory.com
You can download points of interest to your unit that other people created. After you have been a member for a few weeks and post each week, you can download a speed camera poi dB free.
