Need a remote camera system

Like the title says, I'm searching for a camera setup to monitor a self serve roadside stand, seems that some people just can't understand the honor system. Doesn't have to be closed circuit, just needs to store it for review later.

We've notice a pattern to this also. Seems that every friday someone like to take eggs without paying for them.

I've wanted to put a setup in a tree overlooking the stand for a while now, but I have no possible way to get power out there. Its a 1/4 mile from our house and I don't want to bum power off one of the neighbors.

Is there anything out there that has a decent sample rate I think a frame every couple of seconds would do the trick, that will run off a battery for 3-6 hours.

Any other ideas? I really don't want to move it to the house, its on a county road that is well traveled, plus not having it at the house keeps people away and keeps them from snooping around and having other things sprouting legs and running off.

Thanks,

For a minute there I was going to suggest a Lorex system but with your power requirements and distance I don’t know. X-10 (www.x10.com) used to sell some very fine wireless units that with some tinkering, you could wire to an old auto battery for 24hr or more transmitting. Only reason I stopped using theirs was because my distance was much closer and the unit I am now using was very easy (and low priced) to connect to the internet.

There are some of the units (cameras and DVR's) that will run from 12VDC power. Power requirements for the cameras tend to be about 150 to 500 mA so there isn't much of a load.

I'd say try to Google search for a 12VDC DVR ..... I know they're out there because they're made for rack mounted power.

Don't 'hide' the camera.
Make it obvious that it's there.....but put it out of reach.
You won't even need the DVR or a power source, just wires or an antenna.
I've seen fake cameras that have a red blinking light on them powered by a small battery.

We used this tactic on the office snack fund room, we even put up signs that warned that "videotaping" was in use.
'Pilfering' dropped dramatically.
