need help(not to important) antonomous robot project

so i deceided to get involved with a group to build an antonamous robot/vehicle! while planning we decieded to go with a tiny generator for power.

we grabbed some specs online and made some decisions. but now we find out the little honda EX-350 we liked is no longer made! so if anyone knows of any small generatos in the 350 watt range. ad removed let me know. all input is appreciated!
so far 8 hours of google has got me nowhere but asking here.

thanx again in advanced

I want to make an autonomous robot... What's it for? Sounds like a project I'd like.

Can't you use an alternator?

hey Begle...

Did you know your turkey's neck is see thru?

I had robotics in high school, it was electrical, and was controlled with a 3 axis coordinate system.

Why not use one of the new fuel cells for laptops?

look like thats what the new plan is going to be... but i just wanted a prefab allready complete package to drop in. plus the ex-350 could be modded to be 12volt110 only.

i beleive the competition is at
http://www.robogames.net/rules/magellan.shtml

just somthing my roommates and a few friends are doing to waste extra time!

your welcome to come over and help! but you might end up going home with something extra welded to your truck..

Ummm...

The robot must not be constructed in such a way as to damage the environment or other robots. See "Safety" for other restrictions. No robot may weigh more than 50 pounds nor may it use an internal or external combustion engine. The robot must fit inside a 4’ x 4’ x 4’ cube for the entire duration of its run.

So, what's the generator for?

That sounds fun but a bummer it can't destroy things.

What kind and how much power is needed? will the traction motors and electronics probably need to be seperate?
Maybe lithium ion packs.
You could use the exploding laptop batteries from DELL.

That'd definitely destroy the robots and environment!

You could probably get a grip of litium-ion batteries for dirt cheap, though. It's actually a pretty good idea...

I was wondering what you were going to use in the motive department,
I have one of those off road style wagons I bought for my daughter a few years back and I got tired of pulling it so I designed and built a matching pusher trailer that push the wagon as you walked along in front of it.
I used an electric wheelchair (Invicare the kind paraplegic people drive) gear motor through a drive chain and sprocket I bought from a go-kart company to the rear wheels. It is controlled with a PWM controller and a small hand held throttle. The motor has enough torque to break the drive chain if you are not careful.
It is powered from 24 volts 2-12 volt gel cells and will run 6 hours continuous before I have to recharge.

You could use 2 gear motors left and right side direct coupled to each wheel. They are meant to use a Curtis controller but I have a source for a company that builds PWM controllers for robotics that are a lot cheaper.

Maybe you could use the brains from a Furby and teach it to navigate the course.

This the company C&H Surplus
I got the motors from. I always leave there with stuff I never knew I needed.

These are the motors, about 2/3 down the page.

No thanks, I got enough on my plate this weekend... Veggie-oil set-up and all...

Do you know how you're going to navigate anything? That's the hard part...

Mechanically, you just need something with really good ground-clearance that won't high-tail itself...
