Need to buy a 10 year old car fast.

OK guys and gals, need your help again. Have just received a phone call from a woman that is almost a quadriplegic. Her husband died a long time ago. She received most of her injuries in the big Mexico City earthquake when a staircase she was on opened up, dropped her in and then closed up on her.
Her only living child, a daughter (one died) has just become a lawyer but cannot do her work as she needs a car and is going to lose her job unless she obtains reliable transportation.

I can legally import a 10 year old car into Mexico. It has to be a 1998, not older or newer. I am going to be in Laredo, Texas on Aug 16 and if I can find a reliable car in good condition in that area can either tow it back or have someone drive it back here when I return around Aug 19 or 20. Can anyone direct me to a good 1998 car, preferably a 4 cylinder that is light on gas? A six cylinder will be OK too, but not a V8. If necessary I will drive short distance to pick it up.

I would really like to help these people. In spite of this woman's severe handicap she is always upbeat and not a whiner. She even finds ways to help others and I really admire her.

finding 98 and older cars here is next to impossible. there is a weekly caravan headed south.

You might try www.autotrader.com to find a private sale in the area.

I'd look for a Toyota Previa, but I don't know if they made them after '97.

Why couldn't it be older than '98?

I do really appreciate your efforts to help her....

Because the govt changed the rules last year and the only vehicles that can be imported must be exactly 10 years old. Apparently this is to stop junk coming into the country and also to protect the new car dealers.

Might also check Craigs List in the areas that you'll be close to. http://laredo.craigslist.org/search/...sk=max&addTwo=

Doesn't look like much in Laredo right now but that could change tomorrow.
