Post Need advice from you guys - anxiety attacks

Well i have all the symptoms of anxiety attacks but im really not a stressed out person in general.. (unless my cowboys get beat like last night!) i have all the symptoms though, these have been bothering me since i got back from a cruise in july.

I put a X next to the symptoms i have..

X-Rapid heart beat, pounding heart or palpitations
Sweating
X-Shaking visibly or inside
X-Choking sensations or lump in throat
X-Smothering or shortness of breath sensations
Chest pain or discomfort
Nausea, bloating, indigestion or abdominal discomfort
X-Dizziness or unsteadiness
X-Feeling light-headed
Derealisation (feeling unreal or dreamy)
Depersonalisation (feeling outside yourself or like you don't exist)
Fear of losing control or going crazy
Paresthesias (numbness or tingling sensations) in face, extremities or body
X-Chills or hot flushes
X-Skin losing colour
Blushing or skin blotches
Urgently needing to urinate or defecate

Like i said i really dont understand why i have this i read it could be just a unbalanced hormone or something.

I am going to call my doctor and tell him about this, but my main concern is if they put me on something will it be something that i will become attached to? Im afraid ill turn into a zombie or something i dont want that, what do you guys think? or what have u guys experienced?

Pm's welcomed also.

when my gf's gallbladder was first acting up, they mis-diagnosed it as a panic attack. the next day she was in the ER and the next day it was removed. if you're not a stressed out person, you may get that checked.

See your Doc, there may be a physical ailment causing you these symptoms and not related to anxiety at all

That will be $450.00 for the Office visit, take 2 aspirin and call me in the morning...

My wife had her gallbladder removed several months ago. Mimmicked the symptoms of a panic attack caused by stress.

Visiting the doc is the smart first move. Don't be afraid to get a 2nd opinion if the first one doesn't seem right. Too often docs just prescribe meds without spending the time to find the real problem.

I know here in western WA, going to UW's medical center is the way too go. They do a lot of research and tend to be much better at diagnosis and treatment.

Keep us posted on how you are doing. Will be praying for you in the mean time.

As mentioned, if you're informed of something that you question in any way, get another opinion. Many times doctors seem to have their boat payment in mind rather then the patient!!!

High blood pressure can also cause similar symptoms.

After consulting a physician, I would also encourage you to take up some moderate excercise. I'll be praying for this situaiton - it's frightening, to say the least, to not know what's really going on. If you're involved in a church of some type, ask if there's a pastoral conselor on staff, note this is not the same as a Psychologist. They can also cross-diagnose a little bit with you and provide an additional support (typically they do not charge for services.) They can refer you to a Psychologist or Physician if needed.

But first - get with your doctor. Have a good one.

See a mental therapist. They have drugs that can help you if you are diagnosed with generalized anxiety. At your age I would be going for the quality of life drugs and not worry too much about long term problems form the drugs.

I feel for ya. Its a horrible feeling. Something you cant understand unless youve experienced it. Does anyone else in your family suffer from panic disorder? There are several in my family that struggle with it. Ive struggled some with it ever since i was a kid. After being paralyzed from the waist down in a car accident at age 12, mine has been much worse. Theres all kinds of medicines out there that can help. After my injury i was prescribed paxil. It worked pretty good but really made me gain weight. So they switched me to zoloft and its worked great so far. Keep us updated. I'll keep ya in my prayers.

I recommend seeing a good accupuncturist, preferably by a recommendation. I know a bit about it and can see how 2 treatments can help in a big way. No medications, no addiction, simply redirecting flow of energy in your body. I say you have stagnation in the upper body. Easily treated. But this is only if in general your health is good, if there is a known chronic condition - see a doctor too.
