National Law Enforcement Memorial Day May 15

Today, May 9th was Kansas's official Law Enforcement Memorial Service.
I stood there in front of the local memorial that honors the fallen officers of Topeka and Shawnee County, and realized that out of the 9 names, i personally knew 4 of them. Two of them were close friends, anothers kid went to school with mine.
I spent some time talking with the daughters of Deputy Stubbs, killed in the line of duty in 1997, who I knew since they were in diapers. Gregg was a close friend, I introduced him to his wife...I can still see his smile and hear his corny , bad jokes......Talking with the girls made me very aware of the impact not having their dad there for them has made, but also of the pride they still feel for how their dad lived and what he stood for.

Guys, there is a lot of discussion on this site about LEO's and a wide range of opinion about them and what tehy do, but I woudl ask all of you to take a minute to realize that these are men and women who are willing to put their lives on the line daily to protect you and yours, and often pay the ultimate price for doing so.

Take a minute to let your local LEO know you appreciate it......
the following video is dedicated to those who have lost thier lives in the line of duty.

Very nice tribute. Definately a dangerous business ... sure do appreciate those who have dedicated their lives to it.

Chris, Jack and all the others on DTR who are in that line of work ... keep safe and do whatever you need to do to make it home to your loved ones each day. You have my gratitude and utmost respect ... and that isn't easily earned.

Cheers,
PISTOL

Wink

did an escort ride from new york to washington for the first national memorial
don't care how tough you are, you'll creak your knees when the bagpipers start playing in honorariam as names are read off.....

sometimes we need to see the whole picture to realize how much impact and how deep the impact, from the one kid to the nation's leadership.

greatest thing, to be welcomed by a brother you haven't met yet.

always remember, always respect. Thanks for the post, Chris

raspberry doughnut for you

Yea... unless you have this job for awhile you will never understand what makes us a little gruff at times or why we keep doing it if it's so bad, but once your in it and make a difference or save a life you want to do it again. Sometimes I think about quitting (to do a job where I am more likely to come home to my daughters and wife every night) but I don't want to let my brothers/sisters in brown (or blue) stand on that line without me for the next shift or not be available when we have our next school shooting. We lost our first officer 2 years ago and it's still hard to see his family without him ODMP linky here,

Just remember if you in my county and ya need me I'm headin' your way, if ya need me fast I'm headin' you way FAST!

The guy who killed Tony claimed he thought it was a rival drug dealer trying to rip him off again and was found not guilty of Tony's murder
