If you ever have the opportunity to see ANY jet dragster in person, bring ear plugs! The first time I saw Bob Moatz I was trying to take a picture as he went by me but it was so loud I literally dropped the camera to cover my ears. Darn good thing I had a wrist strap on that camera.
You feel it thumping right through your chest as they play around behind the starting line, and it's loud, but it's hard to comprehend how much louder it is when they go past you.
I always carry my ear plugs with me to these events now.

That’s what I’m talking about! Motz’ Kenworth (the black one) is one of the vehicles that engrained my crazy love for jet powered vehicles (see my thread in the competition section).
I’ve had the opportunity to see both of those trucks separately on several occasions. The first time I saw the black one in person was the single most awesome display of power I’ve ever seen (and I’ve seen some ridiculous stuff). A few highlights from the first time I saw that beast… It peeled up chunks of asphalt in 2 foot square sections. When he did his first afterburner pop it shattered almost every window in the timing tower. The burner pops from that thing sound like cannons going off. It was the only time in my life I recall literally standing with my jaw open in amazement of something.
If you’ve never seen one of those trucks in person, I would highly recommend it. They put on one heck of a show. The black one can run 6.90’s @ 220+mph in the quarter! The yellow one has been over 350mph on runways at air shows!
That video was filmed at the Night Under Fire event at Norwalk Raceway Park (now Summit Motorsports Park) in Norwalk, OH (I believe it was 2002). The event used to be over the July 4th weekend, but the track has picked up an NHRA National Event that is now that weekend. The Night Under Fire has been moved to August 4th this year, and the yellow truck from the video will be there, along with 8 Nitro Funny Cars (John Force’s entire team is usually there), 4 Jet Dragsters, 2 Wheelstanders, lots of great racing plus a TREMENDOUS fireworks show. If any of you are in the general vicinity and have an opportunity to get to that event, go! The track is owned by the Bader family. IMOP they are the best promoters in drag racing and their facility is first class.
If I remember correctly those trucks burn about 90 gallons each for a ¼ mile pass. And as Stamey stated, if you go watch you will definitely want ear plugs!
