'07 megacab went up in flames

my buddy's brand new mega cought on fire last night just sittin outside idling.... the firefigthers said it originated behind the dash. The truck is bone stock, with less than 5K on it. With the recent Liberty/Durango recall this has us wondering if his Ram had some of the Libby electrical gremlins
Has anyone heard/had an '07 go up in smoke?

Care to elaborate on why there should be recall, and what for? Do you have some inside information?

judging by this article I think that my buddy's Ram might have been infected by the same bug and GV might be onto something if these stories start popping up:
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2007/...siness_2555964
"
Chrysler said it had received 66 reports of fires in Dodge Durango SUVs from the 2004-2006 model years because of electrical overloads in the driver's side instrument panel below the dashboard."

After looking at the truck this afternoon, the fire defenitely originated under the dash, and it looks like the main loom of wires going through the firewall by the peddals, got the worst of it.
We're just glad that no one was in the truck, especially his little girl who loves the rumble of the Cummins. The truck is a 3500 btw

God bless him and his family.
They are in my prayers.
Praise be to God that no one was in it and it wasn't by his house when it happened.
He'll be riding high in a brand new truck before he knows it.

Throughout many years Dodge/Chrysler vehicles have been plagued with wiring issues. I had a new 1972 Dodge Coronet 440 go up in smoke at about 5K miles. I smelled the hot wiring, pulled off the road, and withing only a couple minutes it was totally on fire. It also originated in the wiring under the dash near a firewall feed through. My father experienced the same thing in the early 80's with a Dodge Pickup.

Since I purchased my new truck in Feb 2006, I have been reading a lot of posts for the past year regarding 'gremlins' in many of the electrical systems in these trucks. While none to my knowledge had subsequent fires, there still seems to be something occurring with the wiring systems that has yet to rear it's ugly head becoming a danger driving these vehicles. I hope you will continue to keep us posted regarding this fire situation so we will be ahead of what could have us along the road watch our vehicles go up in smoke instead of putting it out the tailpipe.

To all reading this post, this could be a primary problem that has just not been discussed much on these and other forums. There are tons of owners that are not on the internet. This is also a heads up that could make you re-think your trailer wiring and making sure you have installed a good fuse box between yout truck and trailer to prevent overloading the trucks wiring.

Since this vehicle is under warranty, this should be entirely on DC and not the insurance company regarding repair/replacement. I certainly would be adament on this issue. DC has a responsibility to this owner and us all concerning the wiring, we all have the same wiring.

it's been almost a week since DC sent their towtruck and repo'ed the truck from our lot (but they're still debiting $$$ from the account )
Both my buddy and his ins. co. are in the dark as to what's going on as DC will not talk to anyone about this
I'll update as the news come in.....

You said they repo'ed it, the only time this happens if someone does not make their payments to the bank or who ever hold the title. But you also said they are still taking direct payments from his bank account for the truck so it does not add up!

Anyway are you saying that DC just came with a tow truck hooked to it with out permission from anyone to do so? If that were the case then it would be theft, so I think Dodge would be that stupid to do that. Someone some place must of OK’ed for Dodge to come take the truck if that is whom it went to.

Just trying to understand it all.

Unfortunately, you buddy may be seeking an attorney to solve his problems and get the ball rolling with regard to his NEW replacement truck. That seems to have already been the route many have been forced to take with the other models to get DC to make it right. I personally would be all over them to rectify the situation/problem. He should also know that his insurance company employs attorneys just for this purpose, only to protect the insurance company from having to pay out due to a manufacturing error. He might want to push the insurance company to step in from a legal standpoint. DC OWES him information at this point in time. The insurance company should be standing side-by-side with DC's investigation and have a representative involved. Otherwise it is possible that any evidence as to their manufacturing flaw could be covered up. DC also should have suspended the payment process, OR, be paying his payments to the finance company if one is involved. This would be a standard courtesy on their part.

I look forward to your updates and information as I am sure otheres here will be waiting for information also.

well, that's just it...the whole sit. stinks... apperently there's a warrant/repossesion paper issued by a baileaf but we're not allowed to see it. The dealer and DC won't speak to anyone about this matter including the ins. co. Corporate theft was what came to my mind as well, and the ins. co. agrees, but since no one is speaking, we're left to draw our own conclusions
The ins. co. seems to be on my buddy's side. He sent them all the pictures, they know what really happened.
