I took Shadow my 4 1/2 year old Doby for a run tonight and half way through he staggered and dropped to the ground. He died in my arms I don't know what else to say I'm crying like a baby right now he was by Bud. I had to call my friends to help me lift him out of the park he was 110 lbs of muscle but I think he had a heart attack. I said my goodbye's and the GF and friends are taking him to the vet to be creamated right now
RIP Shadow

Man, I'm sorry to hear that. Wow! 4 1/2 years old. That is a shame!
I know you are hurting bad, and there isn't much I can say. Remember you were his master and you gave him a good home, took great care of him, and it was his time to go. He died doing what he loved to do, be with you.

He was a beautiful dog, and it's always the worse when it's unexpected like that.
It sounds like sub-aortic stenosis; nothing that you could have done differently for him as it is a hereditary and congenital heart defect, and well exercised and muscular dogs are actually more vulnerable.
I don't know if he had any puppies, but if so they're unfortunately vulnerable as well.

Man I hate to hear about someone losing their buddy. I couldnt imagine life without mine, but I know I most likely will one day. And when that day comes, it will be just like all the other life lessons that he has taught me so far. That little blue heeler has taught me more about life then any one or any thing ever has or ever will. I know that his passing will just be another of the many lessons that he will have taught me.
Just read this and keep it in mind as you go through this tough spot in life.
THE RAINBOW BRIDGE
There is a bridge connecting Heaven and Earth. It is called the Rainbow Bridge because of its many colors. Just this side of the Rainbow Bridge, there is a land of meadows, hills and valleys with lush green grass. When a beloved pet dies, the pet goes to this place. There is always food and water, and warm Spring weather. Those old and frail animals are young again. Those who have been maimed are made whole again. They play all day with each other.
But there is only one thing missing. They are not with their special person who loved them on earth. So, each day they run and play until the day comes when one suddenly stops playing and looks up. The nose twitches, the ears are up, the eyes are staring, and this one suddenly runs from the group. You have been seen, and when you and your special friend meet, you take him or her in your arms and embrace. Your face is kissed again and again and again and you look once more into the eyes of your trusting pet.
Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together, never again to be separated.

I too am sorry for your loss. I lost both of my Shiloh Shepherds this year. Yukon was only 7 and Dawn was old at 12 . Yukon was very unexpected like yours. Man I almost started crying reading your post s I am remembering how I cried at the lose of every dog I have had in my life. It physically hurts.
I am 6' 2" and 240# I was coming home from bowhunting one night and my wife called crying saying I had to get to the vet quick. I got their to find my best dog ever, Dutch , dead. I fell to my knees in front of a full house and bawled like a baby. Oh yeah I was still in camo and had camo paint on my face too... yeah big tough hunter...NOT! I better go get a cupo pof coffee as I am getting choked up thinking about this
The hurt won't go away unfortunately but remember the good times and get a puppy it really helps, We still talk about all of our dogs and that helps too.
Again, I am sorry, take care
