My dog dropped dead tonight
Lot of Comfort, rightly so...
Let yourself feel the sorrow. then the calm, soon back to the happy memories. Please do NOT think of anyhting you should have done, etc. because Begle1(man of many talents) is right on the nose.
Shadow was living large by being with you; the other post above had it right about HOW you spent time with your pal. I run sled dogs. some I like better than humans, maybe you'll agree. But yes, keep the pictures out to look on some-one that you would do anything for. just let a little time pass for a new member to join you. will be some-one totally different.
All the best to you and yours. You'll meet up again.

All I can say is I really feel sorry and send my condolances. I had to put our two 14 year old mini-poodles down together last year and I can tell you I know and feel what your going through. It takes a long time to get over and then I don't think you really ever forget them. Try and concentrate on all the good times you had together and maybe in awhile think about getting yourself another to try and take his place and ease your sadness. Best of luck.
Dude, I almost didnt want to respond to this thread because I cant stand the thought of my big dog goin' but lately he's been showin' his age. He's only 9 yrs. old and he's developing little tumors all over. The doc says they're only fatty tumors but they can turn malignant. I've had him since he was 8 wks. old and I've been through a lot with my buddy. I've had him longer than I have known my wife! I guess what I'm trying to say is that our pets can mean so much more to us than just being a pet. It's amazing how we can grow so attached to a four legged friend who is there every morning and afternoon just to say hi to us and that they missed us while we were gone.
Megajoltman, I am truly sorry for your loss. I hope everything is well with you and your family.

That exact thing happened to me when I was 12, I had a huge golden retriever and he started to chase a dog up and down a fence I walked over to him and yelled at him for runnin off and then he just fell over and started to spasm on the ground so I picked him up and carried him home and he died in my arms too. That was about 12 years ago and I can remember everything about that day like it was yesterday, death is a horrible thing but you will remember the good times the most after awhile.
Hi Mega
I remember showing my wife a picture of your doggy about a year ago, and saying that he was the best looking doberman I had ever seen.
Those of us who have lost a dog know what you are going through.
Not fun...my prayers are with you.

My mom and brother had to put down our German Shorthaired Pointer at 13 because he slipped a disc in his back and couldnt walk. I cried like a baby, even though I was 600 miles away. He was truly like a brother to me; we ALL feel your loss

I too am sorry for your loss. I lost both of my Shiloh Shepherds this year. Yukon was only 7 and Dawn was old at 12 . Yukon was very unexpected like yours. Man I almost started crying reading your post s I am remembering how I cried at the lose of every dog I have had in my life. It physically hurts.
I am 6' 2" and 240# I was coming home from bowhunting one night and my wife called crying saying I had to get to the vet quick. I got their to find my best dog ever, Dutch , dead. I fell to my knees in front of a full house and bawled like a baby. Oh yeah I was still in camo and had camo paint on my face too... yeah big tough hunter...NOT! I better go get a cupo pof coffee as I am getting choked up thinking about this
The hurt won't go away unfortunately but remember the good times and get a puppy it really helps, We still talk about all of our dogs and that helps too.
Again, I am sorry, take care

I too thought Shadow was the best looking Doby I have ever seen (we looked at a lot of dogs/breeders before we found him) everywhere I went with him he got wow what a incredible looking dog. There was a long list of people waiting to breed there Doby's with him, glad in some ways I didn't now
Wow...sorry to hear that one. Thank the Lord for the good times you had with him, and I'm very thankful to know you were such a faithful owner to such a faithful dog. Carry on the good work when the time is right to have the next one...
I'm finally getting myself to respond to this thread. I've lost a dog in the past. I've never cried that hard. I've lost grandparents and friends and didn't mourn the way I did for a dog. I understand what you are going thru. My dog right now is my best friend along with my wife. I've had him longer than I've known her... I think our closeness with our dogs comes down to their loyalty and unconditional love they have for us. You won't get that from any human all the time the way they give it. And they are forever our "children" that never grow up. We owe it to our dogs to be as loving and loyal as we can. I'm sorry for you.
