Must see stuff at Niagara Falls?

Trying to head up to Niagara (Canadian side) the 2nd week in July.
Anyone been up there?
What's a must see?, and what to avoid?
Best way to get there from the lower east coast area?

Used to live an hour from there (Burlington). If you're taking the kids, there's a ton of stuff to see and do in the area. One item that's always a hit with the kids is the Butterfly exhibit. Tons and TONS of butterflys to be seen flying around. Marineland is close, too.

Um, the Falls??

Okay, just kidding.
Do the journey behind the falls. The Gorge trip is cool too. Always wanted to do the jetboat ride and aerial tram ride but ran out of time.
Best thing to do is park at the shuttle lot just outside of Falls area and buy one of the package tours that gives you tickets to something like 4 things. You get 2 days of shuttle riding included. The parking fee was cheap. When you get your tickets, go to Table Rock by Horseshoe Falls and schedule times to go to the events. Works out well that way. Believe it or not, the butterfly conservatory was pretty cool.
I will PM you with a map of where the shuttle lot is. Have to be later this afternoon though.
I would suggest going up the river on the Canadian side. To do this, cross the Peace Bridge in Buffalo. Very scenic drive (would be really cool on a scooter )

Maid of the Mist is a MUST!!!

Another suggestion:
DO NOT GO on July 1st. It is Canada day, much like our own July 4th. The place is packed. I learned this lesson the hard way.

Take a nice slow side trip to Niagara-on-the-Lake. It's not far from the falls and there is lots to see there, including a HUGE flower clock. If you enjoy food and theatre there is a dinner theatre. Lots of artistic stuff to see in this small town. In fact, if you have the time, I would suggest an overnight stay here. Stacks of good food available. Do some research on this town and you may be surprised at what is available. Many US tourists miss this lovely place as it is very slightly off the beaten track.

Have a great trip. Not sure of the best way to get there. Looks like about a 7 hour trip. Don't know if you ever been in Canada, take passports if you have them. Cann't bring in fresh fruit if you taking food with you. Check what you can bring in. If you are going to use Credit Cards, check rates of exchange with the card company, and let them know the dates you will be in Canada. Discover Card has no exchane fee for Canada. Get Canadian money before you leave. Leave your guns at home. Get a Canadian insurance card for your vehical, you insurnce company can send you one.
Have a great trip. Take lots of pictures to post.

Been there done that twice. Even though it's just a bunch of water falling over a cliff, it's really neat. Gotta go in the tunnel behind the falls, that is totally awsome. Nothing but about a waist high fence between you and a million tons of falling water (at least several years ago anyway). Go over to the Canadian side to get to the tunnel. The low level observatory comes out about half way down the falls right near the edge of the water. Really cool. Word of advice, expect to get wet.

Plot your trip starting in Breezewood. Almost a straight shot up. Mostly back roads and stuff but a nice drive.

My wife will kill me for this pic, but:

Looks like the falls got washed out in the background.

Ed,
Make sure you have all the paperwork that you might need for anyone in your party when you come back. We took our birth certificates just in case.
The customs folks will ask either "where you were born?"or "are you a US citizen?"

Ed,
Click Here for a parking lot/shuttle location map

Park there, ride the shuttle all over Niagara Falls. For us, it has been the best way to get around the town. It will take you just about everywhere you want to go. Except Niagara-On-the-Lake (I think). That is someplace we wanted to go, but ran out of time.

Passports are the preferred documentation now.

So I'm assuming that "No Hablo Engles" is NOT the prefered response?
And showing my CHP as Identification wouldn't be in my best interest?.......
We both have current US Passports
