(I figured at least your wife had her passport, given that you have mentioned before about being a bachelor while she was at home in Columbia)

Yeah, I've heard that the Canadian Border Crossings were NOT the recomended place to try your new comedy routine......
As the closest New Yorker to the Falls, I agree with that ol' Texas boy who never went out with another woman( first one wandered in and he married her LOL!)
Please buy the package of four tours. Figure on two days minimum to enjoy the fifteen nearby attractions. At night, the Falls are lit up with different colors best viewed from the Canadian side. There is a casino now in between some of the attractions if you are so inclined. best room with a view? Charter Oaks hotel- 40 bucks US (if it is still there) you view BOTH American and Horseshoe Falls from your 70s room or the observation room on the 10th floor.
Floral clock, butterfly conservatory, Maid of the Mist (tickets required earlier) and Cave of the Winds tour (behind the Falls) Best picture spot??
at the Canadian side where a concrete ramp goes down to the Maid of the Mist dock. walk down one level , beautiful backdrop of the American falls with just a small railing there. This area is better walking as traffic is a free for all.
Be very polite to the Border guys on both sides. Ontario Provincial police are quite informative for directions. RCMP guys will pose for a quick photo. they are in the park on the canadian side across from the Falls.
Walking around the Falls, the American side is the closest and you will hear literally, every language of the world if you like that sort of stuff.
Know that people or traffic will always be around at that time of year. Do not get creative with parking as you will not have a car when you get back.
These good fellas gave you a great head start- ENJOY!!!
Bienvenue!!

)phox
From what I understand Ripley's believe it or not has just put a big show in that area. I have not been there myself just seen it on the local news. Maybe you will get to see some one going over the falls in a barrel
Being born and raised in Buffalo, NY I will second the posts above that the Falls are best viewed from the Canadian side. You can get over the border via the Peace Bridge from the I-190 through downtown Buffalo, or continue on along the Niagara River then through Grand Island and either over the Queenston-Lewiston Bridge or the Rainbow Bridge.
Check out Clifton Hill (Canadian side)...lots of shops, wax museums, and night clubs. Also while in the area see Old Fort Niagara on the American side, then head back to Buffalo for some original (real) chicken wings at the Anchor Bar on Main St. downtown. If you have kids, or like theme parks go to Six Flags Darien Lake. Lots of things to do....have fun

Follow what Moose10 says, I live here in Buffalo about 15 minutes from the
Peace Bridge, we go over all the time. All you need to get across is your
drivers license--if they ask for it. The Canadians want you and your money
so theres never a hard time,
Now, coming back is another story. That where you need your driver license
and make sure you declare what you bought. Its far easier to get into Canada
than it is to get back into the US.
The Canadian border patrol dont carry guns and most of the people in the
inspection booths this time of year are politically connected college summer help. Mostly girls-and some real pretty ones too. The people are great up there. The Canadian dollar is almost at par (within a few pennies) right now.
Theres places to change your money right near the bridge once you cross,
also remember your debit or credit card will work in any ATM up there and will
give you the proper exchange for that day.
Have Fun.

I came back across in a hi-top conversion van the first time. I just had visions of them field stripping that thing and me taking three days to put it back together. I went across at the falls and went up on the QEW to the 401 I think it was. Went east on that and came back in Vermont. The second time I came back across, I was towing my JR R model that I had picked up while I was over there. Didn't get hasseled either time though.
