Mitsubishi Evo "MR"

Anyone in here have one of these or like. I just drove one today after hearing about them for years. WOW!.. I'm actually considering buying one.

I was looking for some real hands on experience as to what kind of simple bolt on mods you can perform...over a weekend kind of thing. What power yields did you obtain.

Bone stock this little four banger has quite a whallop. The salesperson did a super job scaring the _____ of me.

I was quoted $32,8 for the MR.

They are pretty sweet. They are more mopar then you think. The engine in it, 4g63, was the brainchild of DSM, Dimond Star Motors (3 Diamond and one penStar). Think of it as the new Mitshi Eclipse GSX that was so popular in 1995.

Simple bolt on mods...

- Boost controller
- Turbo manifold
- Intake
- Exhaust

For 3-4000 LESS you can buy a Charger R/T with 8 cylinders of Mopar power.

The being said, these Mitsu 4-bangers are indeed rockets (several around here) and provide MUCH bang for the buck.

If you like 'em, go for it.

But the Evo has as much (if not more) genuine "Mopar Power" because the engine (many parts) was desinged before Chrysler was Daimer.

At least my TSI AWD Talon came whit a respectable 3.73 gear ratio, unlike the 2.82's in the Charger R/T.

A weak spot, I agree. I have 2.82s in my Mercury, and it ain't a barn-burner off the line.

A good gear swap could fix that, however, for not too much money.

I have an 03. Don't buy one that anyone test drove. Brembos need to be broken in properly and the stock clutch is weak (meaning if some punk salesman was attempting to do burnouts, it could be half shot already).

I'd start with boost controller. Boost runs up to 19, but backs down to 16 @ redline. Dyno tune wouldn't hurt, they run super rich on the top end for safety (so rich, it pegged the A/F guage below 10:1 before I had it tuned). I gained 17 peak HP, but more importantly 32 HP on the top end from just the tune.

Mitsu is super **** about modding and warantee due to almost every fast and furious wannabe modding the crap out of it and either not knowing what they were doing and/or beating the crap out of it and breaking it.

I consider the 4G63 possibly the best 4 cyl engine on the planet. Stock block (not stock rods or pistons) has seen over 1000 HP and several are in the 8's.
Don't handle bad either...................

WAIT------the new Evo is coming real soon and you will be getting 300+ wheel horsepower, a new all wheel drive controlled unit that is supposivly way better than the already great AWD now. These cars are very easy to bring to life with simple bolt-ons!!!! Tim at TK Motorsports, Greensboro NC, has everything anyone would ever need for these cars. I have a buddy that is pushing 650+ wheel horsepower out of his, fully built 4g63, and that thing hauls the @#$%$##@$!!!!!! !!!!! You will love the car for what it is made for. NOT a daily driver by no means even stock. But a Track killer and a 1/4 mile ripper!!!!!!!!!

Oh yea------WAIT for the new one!!!!

FWD sux compared to AWD. Whats that, its raining. Whats that, it's snowing now. sure glad i have a car with 4x4.

Yes SRT4's are nice, but a DSM would beet them everytime. Especially since it has a Limited slip center and rear diff. Its acutaly more 4x4 than most 4x4 trucks.
