mid life crisis career change

as many of you know, i have been working for dealerships for many years (GM, Chrysler & Mazda). Got sick and tired of whining people and the way the manufactures are handeling certain things and left a couple weeks ago. Been working for the BLM for 3 weeks but before getting this job, had applied to many oil companies to work on the rigs. Well got the call today from Patterson UTI and start December 4th to start training etc and be on my own rig on the 21st of December.

thanks to Wyododge and Colo_river_ram for helping and Wyo for getting me training materials!

when a dealer places a large % of your pay on a survey that you really don't have much control over, it is not cool.

FYI- Dealerships are judged by JD Power by their surveys. EVERYONE must be 100% (or completely satisfied) or the dealership fails (and so does your pay). That is why when you take your rig in and they bug the crap out of you for the survey and or they bribe you for a completely satisfied (or 100%) with an oil change, tank of fuel etc... it falsifies the NUMBERS! For instance, I had a customer come in, did the job, she was out the door. Wrote on the survey I did a great job, prices were in line, got her in and out BUTTTTTTTTTT the sales manager was yelling at an employee during a firing process and she scored me a 1. On a scale of 1-10 and 10 being the best, I lost out in over $1600 in my check. I was and still am PEEEVED about it. I wrote a bill to the sales manager, wrote a letter and placed it on his desk. He brought it back to me, set it on my desk and laughed as he walked away. It took EVERYTHING i had in my to not knock his head off in the service drive. The service director had the sack to even count it against me when the survey even stated it was the Sales Mgr's fault.

soooooo, the reports you see in magazines, dealership advertising etc IS FAKE! THEY ARE FALSIFIED NUMBERS, BOUGHT, BRIBED ETC!!!!!!

I would rather put in 12 plus hrs a day on a rig vs 12 plus hrs a day listening to a customer complaining and then need to bribe them for a survey

unless Jeff turned into a chick really quick, I am in the clear on that one Heidi! LOL

Will be on a rig in west texas/east new mexico. won't know exact what rig I will be on yet but I am excited. Been getting job calls from many dealers here in town and have been telling them "thanks but no thank you, appreciate and honored for the call but getting out of the dealership world".

Well I guess I should fill out those surveys from the service Dept. at the dealership I deal with. The service guy is a good man and takes good care of me. I drive 40 miles to this Dodge dealer when there is one about 5 miles away. I've never had good luck with those guys!!

Good for you! I wish you nothing but the BEST in getting yourself out of the dealership rat race. As someone who has also worked in dealers (Mitsu,Toyota and now Kia) since 1985 (wrenching) I completely identify with your gripes.

You have NO idea how important those stupid JD Power surveys are, especially being that now thru the end of the year is "IQS" time (initial quality survey). FWIW my manager is of the mind that the JD Power folks should all be put in prison (he did`nt quite word it that nicely but this is a family board ).

Well good for you Chris.

I never participate in those surveys. But when my dealer hires a new customer service/sales rep, he sends me in to test them and report back. Long before Powers get's their clutches into his stores.

John Johnson Dodge has gained 5 points as a result in the last 2 years. John's a screamer too. But he takes care of his people. He gives credit where credit is due.

Anyway, you'll be a rough neck and probably better for it too. Congrats and the best from an old burn out. LOL

Congratulations on you new career Chris.

I just started my new career on Monday. It is a lot better than working the the government. Leave the house at 06:00 and going none stop until 17:00 or 18:00. Sure beats sitting at a desk.

Chris, wish you the best on your new job. You'll probably like TX. I moved here from OK 30 years ago and love it. I don't work in the oilfields eveyday but fill in for my BFF who is a lease pumper now and then. The job as a roughneck is a tough one, but just remember to not let anyone work you unsafely. We have several deaths each year on the rigs. All by people pushing too hard instead of just doing there job as it needs to be done.
God Speed!

*throws a tomato at polar*

It's gonna be tough as it was mentioned. But don't let the tv show Black Gold fool ya. It's only hard work when you let it become hard work.

As long as everyone works as a team and watches out for each other, things go smooth, guys don't work their asses off, and everyone goes home safe.

IDK if the log drill spikes any ones memory?
