Lucas Oil Additive
Lucas Oil Additive
I tried the Lucas oil additive at the last change. After 3000 miles I changed the oil and was shocked at the condition of the oil. It was more like slime than oil. Really sticky stuff. I had to use carb cleaner to get it off the rachet.

I was not impressed with it and will not use it again.
Re:Lucas Oil Additive

Re:Lucas Oil Additive
My plan is to make several oil changes with an oil that is high in detergents to clean it out.
I just wanted to give the DTR members a heads up about my experiences with thier product.

Re:Lucas Oil Additive
A whole bunch of folks around here (farm types) use Lucas in their fuel, and swear by it. The oil additive I've never used.
One thing to note on the test pics;
there is a very large volume of air as compared to the oil. The more air present, the more entrainment.
The engine oil system, for the most part, is a closed system and should not foam up much. The only exception would be in the crankcase. Air in a lube system is a killer. The air will cause cavitation at the pump impellerand will erode the metal away thus reducing the efficiency of the pump.
In any lube system, the quality of the oil is the key. For cleaning purposes, I've seen many mechanics use a couple of quarts of transmission fluid in the crankcase. Run the engine for a while and then drain.
All I know is that there is so much stuff out there that if the claims were all true, you could run an engine for a million miles and never turn a bolt.

ramblingwhiledrinkingmycoffeeShortrou nd out
Re:Lucas Oil Additive
I did not see any air in the oil. It was just very thick and sticky compared to what it normally woud be.

I also tried thier fuel additive and noticed that the injector pump was quieter. Now I wonder if it works like thier oil additive. I'm not going to take a chance on it.
Re:Lucas Oil Additive
I tried the fuel additive too.

Seems to quiet the pump, and feels like a little more power. ???

I was impressed.
Millions of truckers can't be wrong..........

Re:Lucas Oil Additive
Stake told me about his incident last night. Like him, I had just put the Lucas in about 1200 miles ago. When he told me about his experience. I quickly ran out and changed it. The only thing I noticed was that when you rubbed the oil between your fingers, it felt "tackier" the more you rubbed it not a constant slick like regular oils. Call it sticky or tacky, or whatever, I will not be going back to Lucas.
BTW: I emailed Lucas to get there side of the story on the oil test that was done. That was 3 weeks ago. I have yet to get a response. That alone shys me away from them.
