The local Chevy dealer told somone the same thing with there 3.1 in a grand prix. They dident wana put a motor in it so they took it to a freind of mine that used to be amechanic and now does it on the side at his house. He put a new preasure sender in it and good as new.

These so called mechanic's these days are just a scan tool reader. If it doesn't throw a code in the compluter they have no clue what is wrong!

Sellers loss your gain. I would not take my truck to any dealer unless it's a recall of some type. Even then I double check everything. Dealers have a habit of fixing one thing and screwing up another. The local dealer here in the metro Cleveland area have no clue regarding diesel ram issues. I pretty much have done my own repairs and service. When your quoted $200+ for a water pump replacement you got to wounder. I did the job parts and all for under $60. Only two bolts hold the pump in place. The most time spent was draining the radiator.
Your right most dealer mechanics are scan jockies and parts replacers.

That's cheap we would have charged you more plus coolant and new belt.

As a former dealer tech I can remember when you started in the independent shops and as your skills grew you advanced into the dealerships, now they take the kids right outta school and put em in the dealerships and they work their way into the independent shops.....and the dealerships wonder why all they get now is warranty work.....
