Lounge is coming along... Any ideas?

Okay… For some time now I have been turning my formal dining room into a lounge of some sort. Since most people only use their formal dining rooms only once or twice a year it is pretty much wasted space to me. I have included a few pictures of what we have done so far. I wanted sort of a “cigar bar” type of feel to it with “heavy” looking leather furniture and dark wood. I have some antique prints and items on the walls but I’m still looking for more. It looks much better at night since the lights dim. I had to turn them up for the pictures. Of course the centerpiece is still the Keg-O-Rator.

Has anyone done anything like this or any ideas?

One problem is seeing the TV from the lounge. I've got a buddy of mine coming to put an outlet on the wall to hang a flat screen (of course it will be a while before I can get one of those).

How about some wainscott under, or in place of the chair rails. Same color as the floor (mahogony?) Maybe a wool rug under the table, I'd lean towards a red pattern. Since your looking at a cigar room motif... how about a set of stag horns on the wall?

Man I love the color of the wood flooring..........awesome color!!!!! I can't really think of much to help you out......is it mainly just gonna be for sitting or is there room for a bar and a couple stools? My dad has a corner bar setup in his basement and it looks awesome!!

It has a corner unit that sits against the wall for all the booze and then a bar big enough for 2 bar stools on the front and one on each side. Turned out really cool but yet he has a lot of room down there. It's kinda hard to tell from the pictures exactly where everything is at and exactly how big that room is.

But then again since you said it is more of just a cigar thing, you might not want a bar.......plus now that I look at the pictures again it doesn't look like that'd be a possibility

I did think about a nice rug under the table. That would look nice. Wainscoting is something to think about. Hadn't really thought about that. I've got a tap holder coming for the back of the Keg fridge to hold my tap collection. Then I just switch them out when I get each new keg.

Thanks Nick. That was one of the things that sold me on the house.

Yep... Flat screen is next on the list. About 27" is all that will fit where I want to put it but I think it will still look nice.

I have a suggestion...quit pouring all the money into a home bar and start putting it away for your daughters education

She shines like a bright one and you may just have a future brain surgeon on your hands Take it from someone who knows, the next 17 years will go by before you know it and you will need every bit of it to get that college fund ready for her

Hmmm she may even have the cure for cancer in that pretty head of her's

That's already taken care of. I set that fund up long before she was even here. The sell of our old house helped out some too.

This is left over for furnishing.... wait a sec..... why am I explaining this to you?

I got the idea for a cigar lounge type of room from our last trip to Vegas. There is a cigar room in the MGM Grand Hotel that I thought was pretty nice (no... I don't smoke cigars). I just wanted to have a room that had that type of atmosphere for when we had friends over. Since we "NEVER" use a formal dining room this seemed like the logical place to put it. I have an area approx. 14' X 18' to work with. The pictures don't really do it justice.

I've never been in a cigar bar, but having been in many other bars from Tijuana all the way to 2 blocks from my house, I saw a couple things wrong.

1. Sting is on TV
2. No painting of dogs playing poker.
3. Even if you hate the stuff, the Old Milwaukee wildlife mirrors are cool if you can find them. I hear they are mega bucks, but they are extremely handsome pieces.

Well, some of them are. The wolf one is kinda lame. There are more than that, that's just a few to look at. They look better in person, those are kinda lame pics.

H'eh.

First of all, hang up some vinyls and some posters. A full length spread of Chandra North or AC/DC or something. No decoration there at the moment, dude.
Second of all, get a bigger sound system and rig up surround sound. Hang some stuff from the roof.
Third of all, no "TV's". Get a good computer and route everything through that, with a projector and at least 22-inch LCD monitor, with remote control. DTR from the couch, that way.
Your chair collection is adequate.
You need to make the kegerator within' reach; when you're buddies are drunk, it's easier to win money off the drop-down card table in the middle of the room.
Get a drop-down card table in the middle of the room.

And, if you really wanted to get wild, I'd suggest an in-floor Jacuzzi. But you have a little one in the house, so I guess you'd have to settle for the trap door instead.

Room looks really comfortable and stylish. Good job. I like the wainscott idea too.
I can't see the ceiling, but A nice looking stamped tin up above would look pretty authentic.

I was going to add, unless you have vaulted ceilings.
