Lotus Elise
So my brother is going on a trip from PA to Texas on Friday to pick one up! He found an awesome deal on one. 3000 miles on it for 42k! Its orange. Very sleek looking car. Does anyone on here own one, drive one, or ever see one in action!?

a tuner buddy of mine owned one- little toyota motor, weigh almost as much as a set of toyo 37" m/t's, and handle better than just about anything out there. a favorite of the road course racing crowd for a good reason.

Check out this Monster Energy Drink one. They had it on display on base last summer...specs are below the pic.
I'd love to take one out on some twisty mountain roadsalthough I don't think I'd pay $42k for one....if I had that kind of coin it would go to a Vette.

The one my brother is looking at is a modified one from the Lotus Cars Company. Its MSRP is around 54 k if i remember correctly
The specs on his was 220hp
0-60 in 4.1 seconds.
It came with the engine out of some other car that is Exige S i THINK?

I own one... great little cars. I underscore little. Honda Civics look tall when you're in one. Complete opposite of the truck.
Handling is the best I've had in a street-legal car. Of course, you have to like loud, and no torque. They're great when you keep them up high...
and they are a Lotus, so they have quirks.
Most people who own them can't handle them -- either A) because they are not easy to drive at the limit if you are inexperienced with high performance driving (drag does not count) and/or B) because they are too small and have too many "quirks".
Fragile, they are not. The chassis is 300 lbs (yep, that's all), bonded aluminum and very strong. No flex in the chassis (ever!), very safe -- usually minor injuries from high speed accidents (1 car, anyway). However, should you crack it in the right way, even lightly, it can be thousands in body work (fiberglass and all).
Be nice to it, and check out lotustalk.com. A bit preachy over there and there are lots of annoying people, but search a bunch and you'll get some good info.

A true, honest, modern-day sports car designed for the autcross & road ralley. Not for average daily American adult consumption - even a bit too rough for me.

But I wouldn't trade it for anything.... I like how raw it is. No driver aids (other than ABS and power assisted brakes), no anything, not even power steering...

The only thing even close to it is/was the S2000 Honda - but i think that may be out of production now. I liked that car too, but the digital gauge cluster was completely out of character for the car. Yep - you're right that the Elise wasn't designed for use without earplugs, people just don't realize how cushy modern cars really are compared to what they used to be.
