That being said, I understand cditrani's frustration. When a neighboring house was being built, the framing contractor parked his work trailer in the common easement, blocking a turn around point. I politely asked him to move it, pointing out how difficult he was making it for everyone else. He said that the property he was working on had just as much right to use the easement as everyone else, to which I replied that doe not mean that any of us can block it indefinitely. At any rate, the weekend came and he didn't even move the trailer while he was gone for a couple of days. So I moved it for him, breaking some cheesy cable lock he had on the wheel in the process. The next week he snotilly asked if I was going to buy him a new lock, and I told him no, he should have been considerate and moved his trailer when first asked to. End of story.

Didn't think I faulted cditrani for doing what he did. I understand his irritation with inconsiderate people.

No problem with you in general. Just strongly disagree with the notion of some sort of "pecking order" on the roads according to vehicle size and power.

If You Pulled Up To An Intersection With A Peterbilt Coming At You At 75 Mph Would You Pull Out In Front Even If You Had The Right Of Way Or Would You Wait And Let Him Pass ?

No, I would not. But that truck driver would be an inconsiderate something-or-other-that-a-moderator-will-edit-out.

I would also not expect a Peterbuilt that had the right of way to pull out in front of Honda Civic coming at him at 75mph and was obviously not going to be able to yield.

I allow trucks and tractor trailers to merge in front of me when they signal and need to and I expect the same courtesy in return.

And in the context of this thread, a vehicle's size or power has nothing to do with parking in a public lot.

Ya I generally hesitate to pull in front of a cement truck baraling down the road but a Honda civic I will push it a little more. Also there is definatly a pecking order I have an Acura that I drive on bad weather days and people don't get out of my way like when I am in my truck. I am not doin anything different.

This is an exagerated circumstance, but... Would you block in Bigfoot? I know most people don't think about this, if I'm driving a Geo I wouldn't block someone in that drives a Dodge CTD, I'd end up parked under them, or drug around the parking lot. Thats what I meant. I drive and park as defensive as possible. Especially since I drive a big truck. People think you can stop in same distance and park within the same amount of space. I have to drive slower and park further away from everyone else and people driving smaller cars don't get that. I could drag people out of their parking spots, but I don't. Does the thought cross my mind? Like you wouldn't believe. When someone gets revenge on some of these pukes, that have no idea how difficult it can be to manuever a truck, it gets me worked up. I just want to say "Yeah, he got what he deserved!". I guess I should watch my wording in the future.

Back to the topic at hand, while I could never in good conscience do the same thing that the original poster did, I must admit there have been many times that I WANTED to hook a chain up to the little cars that like to double park in the parking garage I park in that already doesn't have enough parking spaces.

A few years ago I used to live down at the beach.. One Saturday afternoon I came home to find a car parked across the gates to my driveway... the window was down so I took it out of gear and pushed it in front of my neighbors garage door (he used the garage as a studio and the door was bolted shut)... Well Sunday I came home and there is the same car again.. I called parking enforcement.. They came out and said it is not blocking the alley so we can't tow it.. Told them to come back in 5 minutes.. Took it out of gear and pushed it to the middle of the alley.. the city towed it...

About 2 hours later a knock on the door... the guy asked where his car was.. Told him I don't know the city towed it... he then had the ***** to ask me why I just couldn't have pushed it in front of the neighbors again!!!..

He was visiting the beach... I lived 2 blocks from the Venice boardwalk.. told him sorry you should have thought about that before you blocked a driveway..

Didn't worry about the truck.. was behind a locked gate with a pit bull that loved the truck..as soon as the truck came home he used to jump in the back and lay down..

No pecking order????

Come on guys, you don't really believe that do you?

There is a pecking order in everything, humans and animals, we all have a pecking order that we must live with.

I bet when you are walking down the sidewalk or in a store that when a guy twice your size is walking towards you YOU will step out of his way.

Same thing on the road. I am always amazed at how many people pull out in front of me or tailgate me when I drive the wife's car.

It's real. If you don't believe it...wake up.

You know, it always amazes me when you go into a store, no one tries to cut into the line at the checkout, but they'll do it when they are driving. I guess they feel protected while they are in a steal box on wheels.
