What about the Kel Tec Sub2000? It's under your price range, 9mm is cheap, could be a lot of fun. Also handy at short range for those not expert with handguns.

I'd like to hear opinions on this one from the shooters.

I'm looking for more power than the 9mm. If I went the 9mm carbine route, I'd get a Ruger for commonality with the magazines for my P-89.

Thanks for all the suggestions and info, folks. Based on what I've heard here....and quite a few other places, I've decided on the Vector AK underfolder. Hopefully, I'll have it in the next week or two.

Well, it's on order . Vector underfolder with synthetic furniture. Should be here Friday. All I need now is a half-dozen magazines, a big stack of ammo....and a nice, sunny weekend.

Well, I received my rifle last week. I'd definitely recommend Vector to anyone looking for an AK and I'm told their Uzis are worthy. Excellent condition, good finish for an AK, solid functioning (short of firing it). $600 for an underfolder with one 30 rnd magazine.

Haven't fired it yet but I just received a dozen 30 rnd magazines and have 1000 rnds of Wolf ammo on order. Almost ready to make some noise!

If anyone's looking for AK magazines, Sportsman's Guide is selling 6 for $50 or 12 for $92. They're advertised as mixed origin European mil surplus. Of the 6 I've de-gunked (packed in grease) I got 2 primo mags - high quality stuff that would normally go for $20+ ea and only one dog with lots of wear and dings. All functional, though and I didn't buy an AK to win any fashion shows.
