I'm looking for a gps that will get me where I'm going by truck or ATV in city or mountains by entering a city address or long and lat. Allot of the places I want to go don't have an address. google earth just shows long and lat. Anyone have or know of such a creature? My Magellan 3100 works OK to find numerous/various out of town medical facility's for my daughters appointments (not shown in poi) but one day she will walk again and want to hit the woods on the quads again with dad without getting lost.
Med bills have made things tight so I don't want to spend a fortune. just the basics will work.
Ive done alto of research but don't know a thing about gps systems.

The dilema there is that you need a rugged one for use on the ATV but for vehicle use you want a big screen (at least I did). Usually the vehicle units are not rugged enough that I would take one outside. I have a nuvi 660 for my truck, but there is no way I would take it outside on an ATV. If only buying one unit, I would chose rugged over screen size.
Before I had the nuvi, I used a Garmin GPSMAP60CS in both the truck and on the ATV, it was a good compromise between being rugged and screen size. It has a color screen and will autoroute you to where you want to go from where you are at. It is very rugged and has survived a lot while attached to the handle bars of my quad

I use the Ram Mount system that easily lets me connect it in my truck on the windshield or to the handlebars of my quad.
I would check out Garmin or Magellan, as they seem to be the top 2 in GPS units (for outdoors type of activities).

my buddy - truck driver - has a TomTom, he lives by it.

not sure how ATV proof it is, but he loves it.

i bought a indash unit for my truck (it's the family truckster) and i kinda wish i had got a motorcycle mountable unit now.

so yeah, shop WISELY!!
