It was such a simple task,
Replace the power window motor on my 92 W250, But over the 19 years it's spent in the Arizona heat the plastic has become brittle. First the clip holding the panel in broke on one side, JB weld to the rescue. Then then the clips that hold the switches to the panel broke, first the power door lock, the the window switch. OK reinforced the plastic panel to hold the switches in with a "T" bar in back of the switches. I thought that I could tap the remaining side in with the palm of my hand to seat the clip, not. A corner of the panel broke off, JB welded that back together. I figured nothing else could beak, wrong. I had to drill another hole in the panel to secure in to the door panel, thats when it broke off again. Rats. Time for a few beers.
I figured if I went to the junk yard, if I could find another panel, it to would be just as brittle as mine. So spent the last week hogging out the a block of aluminum to resemble the broken switch panel. I'm not a machinist, just have the time and a Harbor Freight mill drill. But its nice to have a wife thats a Manufacturing Engineer and can help me when I need some advice.
