Lookin' for a good neighborhood in N.C.
Lookin' for a good neighborhood in N.C.
Wifey wants to start looking for a place to call home when we retire in the next 5 or 6 years.
She's thinking about North Carolina.
Someplace warmer in the winter, without being too hot and humid in the summer.
Suggestions?

Right next door to the Thorpe's would be nice eh?

I'm thinkin' middle of the state somewhere. ???
Not too close to the shore that Hurricanes are a problem, not too close to the mountains 'cuz I'm tired of dealing with snow.
We have two rental houses up here, and we're thinkin' of selling one and rolling the $$$ into a place that we could rent out 'til retirement.

Try Davidson County(Lexington), 15 min from Winston-Salem, 30 from Greensboro, 15 min from Salisbury, 40 min from Charlotte/Rockingham. About 2 hours to the mountains or 3 to the coast. The only problem here is sheriff Geral Hege, but we have been working on that. Summers in extreme it gets about 95, average is about 85 summer highs. Winters are mostly just cold, sometimes we get ice storms, and some snow. Just this past weekend the mountains got from 6-12" of the white stuff, we had good looking stuff falling but no accumulation. I've lived in NC for all but 1 year of my life(college in Houston), half in mountains, half in Davidson county. I was used to the rural side of things when I moved here with my mom, and was worried about living this close to W-S. Once we got here I realized it was just like home, just closer to shopping, coliseums, etc. Lots of good people here, and plenty of work on the side if uncle sam is worried about getting his share after you retire.

Go West, young man, Go West. Why worry about hurricanes and such, when you can go West and live in the shadows of several potential volcanoes. Great volcanic shows every century or so.
Hey, look at West Virginia, be neighbors with TOP. However, I wouldn't advise being close neighbors. He may be trying out his moving target range.

I'm leaning more towards W.Va. but not sure about the winters.
She wants to go somewhere where they don't know what a snowblower is for.

Just last week I had to find a picture of a snowblower on the internet to show some of the locals what it is and what it does.
Today: 74 degrees, 38% humidity, brilliant blue skies and just a hint of a nice breeze. Warm in the sun, fantastic in the shade.

Being from Colorado, I don't want to see a lot of snow either, but I like it once in a while. I find this area perfect for me. Good neighborhood where we are too. Lots of nice folks.

Sounds promising Jack. ;D
I don't mind a little snow once in a while.
I like 4 seasons. Just lookin' for a quiet place to hang after "retirement"

I've visited my sister's little horse farm near Level Cross, NC several times, and it seems like a nice county area. She lives right down the road from Richard Petty's place, I think.
