So after my Chiropractor's appointment this morning I decide to go to my local Waffle House for breakfast. I have to say I am a big fan of WH, I like their food. As I'm sure many of you have discovered over the years your local store can be a nice place to eat, staffed friendly and sociable folks. So anyway, I drive down the hill to the store and I can't even get into the lot on the near side. There are 2 cranes working to stabilize and remove a Taco Bell sign that was damaged in the final remnants of Lee as it left our area overnight.

What makes this so stupid is the store is open for business and as I'm taking pictures I'm watching more customers arrive and enter the store. I'm going to say it again, I like WH but somebody needs to get jacked up big time for keeping that store open under these conditions. I know WH tries to keep there stores up and running when the weather does bad things and I have always appreciated that. They ask allot of their people during those times and they always come through but this is crazy stupid! At the time these pictures were taken it was still raining, there was a steady light wind with gusts of aprox 10mph. That's not allot but there is nearly 100 feet of sign that they're dealing with. At the point of the failure, the base leg is in the range of 3 foot in diameter.
I just don't know if they don't understand the risk or if the profits that important. Either way, I went back home. With a flyswatter that big, I don't want to be in that gene pool if it decides to swing.

Imagine that, T-Rad at a Waffle House..

Its also part of the rigger's responsibility to maintain a safe perimeter around the area of work. There must be "safe drop zone".

presumably the riggers got it down safely or we would have heard by now
p.s. I like waffles too, with BACON

Well, when you get down to it. . . . .

I agree with WH. We don't have any around us, but I am a member of the WH club and eat there whenever I am travelling. The food is always the same, the people are what Rick said, and it's a safe place to eat.
I've only had 2 bad experiences. One in Georgia and one in North Carolina. Carolina was all but in business. They didn't even have Butter Milk Waffles! I'm a doubble waffle guy. My wife was, well let's just say she wasn't happy

He must be the Crane Supervisor.
I know there are WH's in Dallas, I ate in one a few months ago. They are usually on major highways and right off interstates. In Ala_____bama, they have to find an area that has running water and indoor plumbing.

Never been to one. Gonna have to try it sometime.
Working on that pole with people in range is kind of crazy.
Probably nothing bad will happen but we have all seen what can happen with one ruptured hydraulic line or a sudden gust of wind.
All of the good planning in the world still can't eliminate the effects of Murphy's law.

If my short term memory is still working.
I think I read somewhere the other day that WH stays open thru just about anything. If there is a power outage they are open with a limited menu. They stay open so people have a place to go in the storms or what ever. my 3 cents.

I never said I didn't. I emailed the company after I sat on hold for 10 minutes. I may or may not have made another call that would have generated a more immediate response, on a local level, but I cannot confirm nor deny that.

The one on the right was carrying the load and looked good to me as long as it didn't try to lift the top out and set it on the ground. The one on the left was holding the man basket and it was pretty much fully extended but nearly vertical.

Wouldn't have it any other way. Now. can you guess who would get the call, if it had actually been made.
