I want to make lawn look great.
Don't know how to go about it, as far as,
when to apply, what types of fertilizer to use, how to get rid of broad leaf weeds, crabgrass, wire grass.
Anyone with success or knowledge would be greatly appreciated.
P.S. Got to out do neighbor. He has TRU'Green do his. HELP!

 

You need to use a year-round program.

What kind of grass do you have?

 

contact your county extension agent that is were you will find the master gardeners for your area they should be able to sample your soil ph and give recomendations for your zone and grass type, it costs 1.50 for a soil sample in my area.

 

I'm canceling my service with Tru-Green effective this month.
After paying them $51 a month for the past season, I have not only received zilch info from them regarding the brown patches in my lawn, but they are now larger than when they started treating it.
(But they will spread grass seed for an additional fee).



Scotts Weed & Feed (basically all the invoices show they treated my lawn with each month) is only 20 something dollars a bag at Home Depot.

a little off point but if you have mature trees in the landscape have a certified arborist take a lookat it. most people want their lawn to look great so they water alot and most mature trees dont like that in the summer. they literally drown. water longer less often for mature trees.

 

Overseading can give you a lawn that is too thick and will contribute to fungus and disease as well.

 

A midnight application of John Deere green spray paint will give outstanding results !!

I use Scotts weed and feed here and the lawn is as different as Night and Day because of it. It is more expensive than some of the other brands, but like these Cummin's engines...You get what you pay for.

 

I guess I have fescue?
I know his yard looks real good (no dandelions, broadleaf grasses, clover, etc.) as compared to mine.
I have heard about seeing a county extension agent, but did not know how much help they would be.

I prefer that turf stuff they put on football feilds and such. Its tough on lawn mowers though.

 

go find a copy of the impatient gardner. This book is great and you will find tonics and mixtures etc.. It is actually not too expensive. I did have a little trouble with the pouring beer on the lawn part. Every time I opened a bottle it never seemed to get poured into the sprayer. By the time I got the mixture made it made the lawn look a little wavy. anyhow it is written by Jerry Baker hes the guy that does K-Mart commercials. He also has a book on just Lawns. good luck
