Law School
Law School
Alright, who here has gone through Law school. What is your concentration in and what did you do with the JD. Ie what do you do now.
I only ask because I am waiting to be accepeted to a school and if I get accepted I am going to go 1 of 3 ways either Criminal law, Corparate law and work for the DEA ATF ect ect. Or Enviromental law and being a political lobbiest for Fuels like BIO-Diesel ect.

you will learn 90 percent of history, procedures, case study, how to use references and like it, Parliment rules, Congressional changes that affect current laws, case study laws pivoting on historic events, and some classes where you don't know the class but you are told to think and go find it in the library. four page minimum due in tomorrow.
criminal law covers 19 basics, it is the experience that gives you the learning. it is in the losses that you get your education.
seriously, you accept that a federal agency will hire you off the blocks (just out of school). it better be Columbus or harvard then....
I don't mean to be rude, but I am amused at the ease of which you think all of this education occurs. God Bless ya if you can do it, and never let one soul dig at your dreams (me included!!!). I wish you all the best!
lawyers today in corporate or govermental practice will not condone dog to dog aggressiveness; it is done with the cunning and teeth of an eel.....
Ruth Bader ginsburg to graduating class Albany, ny 1987

Dude you got it all wrong.....I was just wondering if anybody else had a JD on here and what they did. I never said Because I am going to try and get my JD that if I did I would be offered a job because it was owed to me.
A real good family friend of mine went to western for law. After passing the bar he became a corporate lawyer for a big housing contractor and then became partners in owning it. Then he opened a large multi-state DE mortgage company. Now retired, but does have a small law office, him and one paralegal, to keep busy.
A good friend of mine went to U Mich law school and has a JD and discouraged me from entering the profession. His basic advice to me is that the majority of lawyers spend their time trying to make enough money to overcome the emptiness they feel in an occupation that was supposedly honorable and noble and all that.
He said no matter how much money you make, it's still hard to enjoy the job.
He seemed pretty sour on the whole Legal Profession, despite the fact that by all accounts he's pretty good at it.
I was remotely entertaining the idea of applying to law school myself. I'm not really interested in it anymore--especially since the FBI does not require such for employment.
I'm hoping the FBI thing works out, as it would be the easiest transition from my Air Force career, but it's a very remote shot, and even a stud like me has a hard time getting in
Just kidding about that whole stud thing---

If you are really serious about the Law, you might want to start by not calling the Honorable Judge Heidi, a dude
I would be willing to bet whether in her court or any other, the Judge will most likely not be real impressed by being called "Dude"

If that's the worst I get called, it's a good day!
like he said; he was just wondering. no harm, no foul.
having a JD on your resume means that everyone will expect you to be the smartest, pin point accuracy on facts, know in advance what's coming down the pipe, and all around not possible to live up to any of that....
it is your hard work, reputation that gets you to high places. you need to NOT like people to be a corporate lawyer, and a killer shark instinct to be a player in the business world (agent, contract negotiator, financial overseas deal maker) life on a cell phone, no relationships, four AM contacts are routine, think of travelling salesmen of the fifties...no wonder they were smashed most of the down time.
I truly hope you can actually talk with some folks that you think have the ideal job. best thing would be gaining a mentor; worst thing is getting some information. truly wish for your success,
even if you are not a stud like hOHN....hehehehh Army gal here, just had to slap at ya...Merry Christmas!!!!!
