new2ctd is 100% right. Give someone a reason to suspect you’re up to something and their natural instinct will kick in and probably don't stand a chance.
Playing dumb only gets you so far, then logic, fear and experince have to kick in.
Respect these guys out on the road, it's pretty simple really.

Ohh I get it now! You can tell that I've never been around anyone who has a reason to use the word "stash"
I got pulled over once in Oklahoma City and it was just after I had been helping the helicopter guys give rides in the airshow down there so I was all sweaty and stuff, and I was driving back from the dowtown airpark which is in the "bad" part of town.. I was stupid and forgot to turn my headlights on...anyways just because I was sweaty, the guy thought I was nervous about something so he grilled me with all these questions and I think he wasn't far away from calling the drug dog on me so I agree with P.J.! If they suspect anything, they will do their best to get to the bottom of it! I got off with a "failure to show proper insurance" ticket, because I showed him the wrong insurance
(reminds himself to go clean out his glove box)
Edit: im glad he didn't do a search because that knife was sitting down there between the seats like it always is....
Thanks for the replies...
I was kinda thinking that as long as I don't hide the knife, I am good. I have dumped it in plain sight on the back seat in the past when I have been pulled over. Not in my easy reach. Nothing else hidden in the truck, and I don't hide the fact that I have a knife in my truck.

Just wave it out the window as he approaches your vehicle, this way he knows you have nothing to hide.

I'm not to worried about it. Maybe I should be. Been pulled over a couple of times, just told the officer I have a knife I keep in my truck in the back seat... I do like the idea of a CC permit. And OK is a shal issue state... May look into that.
And also on the plus side, there are many stories of folks with CHPs getting a 'break' from a LEO during traffic stops.
Wouldn't want to make a habit of relying on THAT one though

Here in the people's republic of MD you can't have a weapon at all, not even a big wrench in the cab. However, you can keep an unloaded long gun in there. I just keep a short 870 in the back seat and some shells in the console. Takes a minute to get it and load it up, but a nice feeling knowing it's back there.

If you keep the ammo in the same area as the gun (bothe in the passenger area) and that ammo will work in the gun in the eyes of the law your gun is considered loaded... Beware!!!!! As far as knives go just tell the LEO you have it and where it is and all should be cool.. he may take oyu out of the car and have you stand aside while they retrieve it. Here in California a spring blade and a blade that has both sides sharpened are illegal..

It all depends on your local laws, the years on the beat & attitude of the LEO.
In Washington DC, ONE CARTRIDGE, is the same in the eyes of the law as a loaded firearm when you get pulled over by the po-po.
Hmmm. Good point Gerry. Kinda depends on the circumstances too though. I've been pulled while the shotgun was in the passenger seat, barrel down and action open, and the deputy just looked at it and asked if it was loaded. I said no, its open, and pointed to it and he was fine with it. That was during duck season though. Another time I got stopped in late fall and had the standard assortment of loose ammo in the little floor console box I made, with about 4 different rifle calibers and 3 gauges of shotgun shells all mixed up. I actually didn't have a gun, but he said that when an officer sees ammo like that they can assume there are weapons in the vehicle. Shoot, I still have lots of bullets rolling around under the seats and in the glove box, but most people do around here.
I had a cc permit in Virginia, no problems at all getting it. MD will rarely even give them to judges and retired cops. I meet all the requirements, even the part about owning a business and having cash transactions, but I know it won't go through. Some one threaten me so I can claim that I fear for my life too, maybe that'll help! MD is just too safe for my own good.
Hey Shovelhead, your post just reminded me. One time when I was about 14 or 15, our boyscout troop took a trip to the white house. We were standing in line waiting to go in and I stuck my hands in my coat pockets and realized one was full of .22 ammo.
Just dumped em in the big trash can nearby. Can you imagine that happening now? I'd have been shot. That was about 1990 or 91.

Nevada law defines "concealed weapon" as on your person, so any where in your vehicle is NOT a concealed weapon-------also in NV you can carry a handgun in any condition in vehicle, but a long gun must not have a round in the chamber.
www.packing.org is pretty much the internet 'bible' on carrying weapons.

Nevada State Law is silent on motor vehicle carriage of firearms. Any law-abiding citizen may carry a handgun, loaded or unloaded, in their vehicle.
