If they do attach that way, perhaps tamperproof hex or torx screws?

The screws are fake, you can wrench on them all day and you wont get that door off. It attaches from the inside. I did figure out how to open it though. I lost my spare key this morn , dont ask me where the first one went either. I needed fuel, so I took my dewalt, a small drill bit, and drilled the lock out in about 8.2 seconds. Kind of disapointing that it was that easy. Gotta find a replacement lock for it now

I just installed a locking billet-style cover that I got from Geno's. Actually lends some character to my otherwise plain looking truck. My wife thinks it looks cool. It looks so tough that it would prevent most would-be thieves from even trying to tamper with it. For those who think it could be removed with an allen wrench, I don't think so. You have to have the locking cover open to hold the nuts inside in order to tighten the allen screws. I figure the cost of the locking cap ($100) is worth one tank of diesel.

I have a locking cap and won't use it. If the thief wants the fuel bad enough he will just put a hole in the bottom of your tank. Make it easy and it might be cheaper.

Of course, that doesn't stop them from drilling holes in your tank...but neither does anythig else (except maybe a match).
It works well to block siphon hoses, but it's official purpose is to close and prevent the flow of fuel out through the fill tube, should the truck roll over in an accident.

Im not worried about it. When the crook realized that he cant get the hose down, he will move on to an easier target.

I guess I just dont care. Heck, I lock my tookbox more than I do my doors. If they want it bad enough, they will get it.

In today's MSNBC news:

LORTON, Va. - About 400 gallons of diesel fuel was stolen within the past week from a Lorton-area construction site, Fairfax County officials said. The fuel was taken sometime between Sept. 1 and Sept. 6 from a battery-operated fuel pump and storage tank in the 9700 block of Gunston Cove Road.

Police said several other cases of gasoline siphoning have occurred in the county this week.

If I had realized that you couldn't get a siphon hose in our tanks anyway then I wouldn't have forked over the $15 for a locking cap. I guess it's still good for keeping people from putting stuff in your tank. Not that I have any enemies, but some folks are just mean spirited.
