I have already told my wife that I need to get down and pick up a couple, for my truck and her Cherokee. I also plan to make up a lockable cap for our outdoor heating oil tank if we don't get the shop sold soon. I don't like having 250 gallons sitting unattended where anyone can get to it!!! Thats something for any of you who have outdoor heating oil tanks to think about...people get desperate in times like these.

I have one. Mine is a Billet locking fuel door. a bit more expensive than a cap @ about a $100.00, but it was the look I was looking for and I got mine a year ago when I could afford it and fuel wasnt $3.49

I just need to shop around and find something that can't be removed with a pair of channel-locks in 5 seconds. Anyone who plans enough to carry a gas can and hose will most likely also be carrying a set of channel-locks to get a cheap plastic locking cap off.

If they made a locking door that matched my truck then those would be nice. I don't like the stainless look though.

If you go that route, and have a 2002, make sure you select 2001 for the year or it most likely will not fit.
They don't distinguish between 1500's and 2500's, and 2002 was the first year of the 3rd gen body style in the 1500's.

Just an FYI.

I wonder if they attach that way, or are just made to look like that's how they attach.

If they do attach that way, perhaps tamperproof hex or torx screws?

The best combo would be a locking cap and a locking door.

I tried to put a piece of garden hose down into my tank, and the fill tube definitely has the ball valve in it. I could hear it rattle everytime the hose hit it. I thought these trucks all had the ball, but some people are reporting that they don't. Mine's a 96, BTW.

Most lazy crooks won't take the time or carry the tools needed to take it off.
They'd rather just move on to an easier target.

picked one up last week at the dealer for 21.95.figured it would be cheaper than losing a tank of fuel.

You beat me to it.

I accidently put gas into my '97 dodge one time, and thought I was going to siphon it out. Nope. I couldnt get the hose down the neck. I only put 1 gallon in before I realized what I was doing, so I just filled the rest up with diesel, and ran it out. No problems.

So you're saying our trucks have some kind of anti-siphon valve in them??

Of course, that doesn't stop them from drilling holes in your tank...but neither does anythig else (except maybe a match).
