Just got INSULTED at a dealership
Went to a dealership to look at trading my truck, was only offered $4,000 for my Dodge.
Talk about an INSULT, no wonder they are having a hard time selling vehicles, cause they cant appraise the trade in vehicles worth ****.

I only got $5,500 for my 01 Dodge 2500 back in February '08. It had 240,000 miles on it. My buddy buys at auction and confirmed the price was right on the money as what they were paying for them. So, depending on your mileage, that's right on the mark. Unfortunately, it's not always what it's worth, but how much someone is willing to pay for it.

Probally not an insult since you were at a dealership! Thats just how they are. That's why nobody can stand to buy vehicles. Not giving you crap for your truck is how they make up for the big rebates. Car dealers are right behind lawyers when it comes to being good at getting your money.

I was at a dealer some time ago, and was told they wanted my truck. Then he said you ARE going to leave here in a new truck.
He asked me what I wanted for it in trade. I said nothing less than $40,000. He said "what?????"
I said I own it and you want it. If you buy it I have to replace it and that is what it would cost to replace it.

Been thinking about upgrading to a common rail truck and drove through the lot of the dealership that claims to be the biggest truck dealer within about a 60 mile radius (sell both Dodge and Chevy), I think they had four or five new Dodge diesels on the lot and only a couple of used diesels. I wasn't even considering trading at that dealer before but seeing that was enough to realize that they probably have zero interest in taking an older diesel in on trade.

They are a dealer. They need to buy low and sell high to make a profit and stay in business.

I look at it this way. I f you own it and you know the condition of the engine, tranny etc., the you just put away that 350 or 400 clams a month you'll be paying on a new one and fix yours up right.
I for one wish you could buy the ol' F100 style truck with bullet-proof seats, a rubber floor, am/fm radio and crank windows (which would be special order nowadays). The problem is they LOAD these new trucks with a ton of B.S. as standard. Then, when you "option" for the diesel, it runs the price through the roof.
The kicker now, I believe, is you and I need to get a new diesel now before the Messiah taxes non-comercial, heavy-duty trucks off the lot.. JMHO.

Cuz hes now riding in a really cool DIESEL power Limo built on a TOPKICK platform with an ALLISON'S tranny. Now if we could swing it into a few of the guys on here garages we could show the new PREZ what the thrill of the smoke is all about.

When I bought my wife's Xterra, the salesman tried a couple times get me to "go ahead and get a new truck too". I told him if the truck lasted 200K, I would consider trading it in if the moeny was right...

When I traded my 98.5 with a 5spd and 165k on it I got $8,000 back in november. They told me they wanted my truck cause they had guys that wanted the 5spd. They started at $4,500 but when they told me that the price went up until I was satisfied.
