Thanks guys! I appreciate all your thoughts and opinions. I don't smoke and don't really drink, maybe 1 or 2 a month, if that. I use to walk every morning before work, still had high BP. I'm going to try walking at night after work and see how that goes. Doc says I need to make some radical changes fast. High BP runs on my moms side of the family.
keep away from diet anything they make up the taste with salt . my brother has high blood pressure and he drinks that diet stuff and is now hooked on it. as for me i have to stay away from caffine and salt and i don't run because of bad knee's , but i walk alot on this old farm. saturday helped put 450 80+lbs bales in the shed for a friend of mine i threw them on the elevator. wow haven't done that in a long time. break out the icy hot.
In your produce section look for 1/2 gallon or gallon of Zeiglers Apple Cider. Drink one fruit glass every morning. It will lower your BP. Goes with the old saying " An apple a day keeps the doctor away". Had several friends drink it instead of meds and even the Doctors were surprised.
I have even used it when work is crazy and stress is high.

High blood pressure CAN be managed without meds. I would have taken that route first. Blood pressure med can bring a whole host of other issues in the form of side effects. In most cases HBP has a root cause, most are associated with the beginning of kidney issues/disease. Exercise with arthritis can be accomplished via a good swimming program AND using resistance equipment. Resistance equipment only applies an equal pressure to the one you exert. A spa at the right temperature is OK for people with cardiovascular problems/issues. It can be tax deductable if perscriped by your physician. I used a spa to recover from a knee injury/surgery and some small weights.

Well, for awhile now the doc has been concerned about my blood pressure, high (140/100) I guess this bad. So today he decided to put my on meds. We talked about diet, weight and excersize. I know diet/weight is an issue, but the exercise part is the problem. I have arthritus/degenerate joint disease and this makes the exercise part difficult.
Any thoughts, suggestions from any of you out there with high blood pressure? Thanks

I would look into somthing other than the medication.
I would buy a home BP moniter and moniter it once a day for about 3 weeks.
See if it fluxuates any.
Once you are on BP meds you are on them the rest of your life..
I would look for fluxuations in your BP through differnt days before the classify it as hypertension.
I'm 17 and they wanted to put me on BP meds but one of the best kidney docs in the nation @Childrens Pittsburgh said he wouldn't classify what I have as hypertension. Because my fluxuates daily. But most of the time @ doctor visits it was roughly 190/100+ Now its been hangn in around 135-140/85-90.
I have a lot of other medical problems and pain peaks can also affect your blood pressure (I believe?). Also nerviousness, people around you who smoke ect ect..
I would drink LOTS of water. And I would look into some sort of water areobics due to your arthritus.
Also instead of walking/treadmill use a stationary bike.
Hope this helps, if you need anything else feel free to pM me
