Judicial System worked this time(might be long)Yep it is

I was car jacked...uh...Truck jacked a year and 3 days ago (4-7-06) I picked a Air Force friend up from Travis AFB and was heading home. On the way we saw a lady almost escape her would be car jacking before she was shot in the back by these animals. They decided to take my truck instead. They held a gun to my head and asked if "I would kindly exit my privately owned transportation module". I abrubtly exited and instructed my friend to do the same. Later we ended up with one of four different law enforcement entities who responded to the scene. Finally at around four in the morning the nice man who decided to "borrow" my truck came out of his humbley barracaded abode with an AK-47, and waived to the audience made up of 2 separate SWAT teams and us. At this point he felt talking was a quieter option...(I don't think he wanted to wake his neighbors). After a lengthy testimony given by "Your's Truly", and much deliberation given by a jury of his peers, he and his partner were convicted today. The man who entered the truck on the passenger side will be in for 25 to life, and the guy who held the .45 to my head will be a part of the California Penitentiary system for the next 150 to 200 years. One juror decided the intent to kill wasn't there, so they were let off on the attempted man slaughter charge. However, in the state of California causing bodily injury while stealing a vehicle will get you many, many free meals in San Quentin.

If it was my choice I'd cut out the judge, lawyers, and the jury. They shot a lady in the back....send them to the Superior Court of the All Mighty.

As a correctional officer myself I feel the same way. I don't want to pay to have these human race rejects eating up my tax dollars.

Good to know at least they got convicted... and i'm shocked that only one person "felt" there was no intent to kill!

Sadly, they will probally be walking the streets in well less than 10 years unless the judge/cali has/gave a manditory minimum sentence.

Much to the dismay of the majority of this country's population, there is no such thing as hard time and true punishment anymore.

Liability and Defense Lawyers, two words and one profession that need to be removed from the american vocabulary and society.

Tired from work and measurably synical about the american justice system after finding out a rock sold arrest I made a while back got dismissed for no apparent reason.... reality is that the Judge probally was too lazy to read the arrest report or didn't have the nerves to actually take action(happens WAY WAY WAY more than the public could ever believe)

I think I've rambled and griped enough. Time for bed.

Mike

The justice system is not a justice system. It is a legal system. As long as man administers justice it will inherently be unjust. My view is that there is a small percentage of people incarcerated that are able to be rehabilitated. There is an even smaller percentage of people incarcerated that are completely innocent. I'm not the kind of person that is comfortable throwing away the lives of a few deserving people for the benefit of ridding society of the wicked.

I would not want to live in a Bigbrother society Bluedeviltorque describes. I have seen first hand how prosecuting district attorneys are often interested more in their win/loss record than seeking justice. Defense attorneys level the playing field by making prosecutors be somewhat accountable for their actions. If there are frivolous loopholes that let obvious criminals escape punishment, we should seek to close those loopholes instead of blaming defense attorneys for using them.

In my opinion, punishment serves only 2 reasonable purposes:
1. To protect society
2. To rehabilitate the offender

There is no room for punishment as revenge. Those that delight in revenge and the suffering of a person are wicked people themselves.

Hey Redpoint, I agree, I beleive in allowing God to have his revenge on people, but in the mean time, I always figgure I might as well go ahead and get even with them. Someone who does this type of crap has already decided that he/she is willing to take whatever happens to them, I DO NOT EVER FEEL SORRY FOR THEM nor do I care about any pain and suffering they have, as long as its enough. DONE NOW. sorry.

First, I'm glad you were left in a condition to testify. Second, he put a gun to your head and had you get out of your vehicle under duress, hmmmmm........ I can tell you I'd be in the majority (The other 11) on that one!

See now? If everyone suscribed to MY theory of law enforcement, ("Stop!" "NO!" *BANG*), there wouldn't NEED to be a judicial system. If everyone were required to carry a gun it's still possible the woman would've been shot in the back. BUT, you two guys in the pickup most likely would have been able to end the whole affair quite quickly! And there wouldn't be any NEED to have a trial, nor for the rest of us to spend our tax dollars supporting the criminals for the rest of their lives.

I think it would work!

Wow, glad you and your buddy are ok. Did the lady survive?

So this happened on Travis? I thought that was a decent place. I don't think someone would be dumb enough to do that on base. But then again do not put anything past anyone.

Yeah they shot her before I got there, so there is not doubt they wouldn't have thought twice about me if I hadn't reacted how I did.

I have ran that over and over again in my head. I just took my .45 out of the truck the day before, and actually had some rounds in the truck.

Nate,

It did not happen on Travis. It happened on highway 12, on my way home from Travis AFB. The base is actually pretty nice.

Don't mean to derail the thread but that is funny right there.
