Johnsonville Beef Brats - Mmmmm, Mmmmm, Good

Last night we were cooking hamburgers on the grill and I threw a package of Johnsonville Beef Brats (which I've never had until last night) on the grill with them.

I always use Kingsford charcoal and then I usually throw a few chunks of hickory on top of the charcoal to get a good smoke flavor.

I brought them with me for lunch today and HOLY COW!! I think that may well have been the best lunch I've ever had. Nothing special. Just heated the brats in the microwave and then slapped it on a piece of Mrs. Baird's potatoe bread like a hot dog.

Anyway...just thought I'd share.

An acquired taste for bratwurst (it didn't take long to acquire it ) was one of the benefits of living in central Ohio for 22 years! Love 'em!!

I've tried the regular Johnsonville brats before and, while they were good, they were nothing spectacular. Today was the first time I tried the "beef brats". MAN!! Those things are GOOD!!

Then again, it's hard to beat a good sausage cooked on the grill. My neighbor gave me some deer sausage a couple of weeks ago that I cooked the same way and they were pretty good too. In fact, I wish he'd give me some more.

While I'm sure that would be tasty, I'd have to actually BUY beer in order to do that...and I don't buy alcoholic beverages.

Thumbs up

Yes, Brats. The little woman starts 'em in the oven then we finish 'em off on the BBQ 'til they're slightly charred - just a bit of crunch. Hot dog buns or not and a big slug of genuine "Cleveland's Famous Bertman Original Ball Park Mustard" as used at Cleveland Stadium since 1925, which we import from Cleveburg in large quantities on a regular basis.

I thought you had to simmer them in beer with onions spicy brown mustard and some brown sugar first, then toss em on the grill, the simmer pot gets left on the stove and cooked down to make the best dang bbq sauce for the brats when they come off the grill........ least thats how I do em.

Cant believe no one has mentioned the kraut and the dark german beer. We like to let em simmer in saurkraut and beer just to plump em up a bit before hitting the grille. Course you can't grille brats with out tasting the good german beer as well. I think I need to fire up the grille tonight!!!
