Jeep Libertys

We just got back from a 1k trip through Yosemite and the eastern Sierras. Two things impressed the you know what out of me. #1 was how good these CTD`s perform at 10k evevation loaded with a camper etc and the other was this guy I was following in his Liberty towing a camping trailer. Man, granted the trailer wasent huge, maybe 16 footer or so, wider than the jeep, but this guy was givin me a run for the money on the hills. I followed him for many miles and was amazed at how he could pull grades at 70mph towin.
Ive read here some of you have them and some the diesel models. One of these days Im due for a new commuter rig, might have to check out these guys. Very impressive.

Compared to what????? A Volkswagen????

25mpg in an SUV pulling a trailer is nothing to turn your nose up at. My Durango got 11mpg unloaded. My wife's Escape (3,500 lb towing capacity) gets 19mpg unloaded.

I'd buy one.

If I was going to drop the money on an SUV, I dunno I guess the Liberty just isn't my taste. It screams 'mid life crisis' to me. Either get a Jeep or don't.

No No No that is not loaded that is unloaded! That is junky milage for a 2.8 liter 4cyl, we just got a 04 4runner with the 4.0 v6 and we have run 3 tanks in it and have gotten aruond 25 all 3 times! The runner is a much bigger car, and a much bigger engine! We haven't towed with it yet and dont plan to, but it is rated to tow 7k!

My wife has an '04 Liberty gasser. Wish it was a diesel, but even still I'm amazed by it, overall, especially the off road abilities. Until the diesel was intorduced, the only improvement I would have liked to see was the addition of the 4.7 V8 mated to a 5 speed automatic. That would make for one mean machine.

The new diesel has got some get up and go to it, stock. Can't wait to see how they do bombed.

We were looking for something around 25 grand and at that price none of the competition came even close. Heated seats was what closed the deal for my wife. Any thing the competition offered with heated seats was at least 5k more.

The Liberty it is in a class all by itself as far as small SUVs go. Look underneath at the drive train and under carriage, and you'll see what I mean.

None other has the quadratrac system. Best in class cockpit too, IMHO.

Some of the guys at the Jeep forum are reporting 30 mpg with theirs. My Aunt has that same 4 Runner and has gotten a best of 19 mpg on the highway. You've got a good one.

We got it used with 14k on it. It was owned by a 65 year old man who never really drove it. It must have been broken in right, or your aunt is a little hard on the gas.

We're thinking of getting rid of the wife's Impala in favor of something that will get her out of our insane driveway in the snow. All of the typical AWD vehicles don't have a locking differential, and basically useless. I assume the Liberty does? Unfortunately, Massachusetts won't allow us to register a new diesel Liberty because of the pollution restrictions mandated by the state, so we're considering a gasser. Do any of you guys have regrets about buying one?

Commatoze,

Can you register a used one. I've seen a few used ones already, even test drove a used diesel liberty with 9K miles on it. Just thought it might be an option if you really wanted the diesel option.

Good Luck.

My son has a new Liberty Diesel. He gets between 28 and 32 mpg. I do have to say that he's a feather foot. He really doesn't push her unless he really has to. When you do put your foot into it, you can really feel the power that diesel has to offer!!!! He's extremely pleased with his new ride and after taking a trip a few weeks ago with the Liberty, I wouldn't mind having one myself!!!!!!!!! The overall quality, fit & finish is way above average IMHO! You can hardly hear the diesel with the radio off and the ride is quite comfortable!

I must be getting diesel illness...... I dont normally notice SUVs, especially the smaller/mid sized ones like the Liberty, but I saw a little puff of black smoke from the one infront of me when accellerating on the I-state onramp... my eyes opened... I sat taller in the seat... pushed the go pedal ... just to get closer and check out a fellow diesel....

You can put a diesel in a Aztec and I would find it more appealing (not really, trying to prove my point)! I think the whole diesel SUV thing is somewhat funny in a way.

You have diesel guys who under normal conditions would snub their nose at the Jeep. Now saying, "the little Jeep ain't really that bad, actually it's kind of comfortable, fit and finish is top notch". Come on guys who are you trying to fool? I drive a Jeep for a work vehicle older one but still! "Fit and finish" "Comfortable" "Nice and Quite" save it, please!...

You're really thinking hmm... how can I talk the wife into one of these so I can BOMB the crap out of it?

Fess up... I know you have an eye out for injectors and fueling boxes for the CRD!

Hi, I'm (insert name) I'm a dieselholic. I'm here with you all, hanging my head in shame, mostly because I bought my wife a Jeep Liberty under the guise of appreciating the fine merits of the Jeep CRD. It now sits in the driveway, a 600hp twin turbo, NOS huffing, fire breathing dragon and my wife won't drive it.

Mike D,

I know where where your comming from and what your saying but really,,,,,, you have to check out of of these new Liberty's to see what "I'm", saying regarding the fit & finish, ride comfort and noise level,,, or lack of!

Sure,,,,, if I had one, I'd be looking into some mods as soon as they were available! But if your not into that scene, the Liberty CRD is set up to do just about everything you require!

Again, just my opinion.
