Yeah, I agree, its getting into cool weather here too. Just ran down to Waffle House for a cup of coffee. Guess I will have to break out the jackets, was a little cool with just the tee shirt. 67 degrees out...

Re:It's 80* and calm in Montana.....
Started snowing yesterday morning.
Hasn't stopped since.
Not sticking to the roads, yet, but didn't get much over 34 degrees today.
Plugged the truck in last night.
Put on my winter guards this morning.
Need to stop by the Wally World and get some Howes or Stanadyne, I doubt the fuel stations are blending this early in the season.

They were a scurrying around for PS911 this morning here in YNP. The temp at Tower Jct is ZERO! Luckily, Wycowboy2 and I put Stanadyne in our trucks last night.

Montana people...!
I've been thinking a lot of moving out to MT. I visited last winter and loved it. I am going to be going there again in November but only for a few days. Going to be hauling a car from Canada to Arizona then hauling another car back to NJ, but I'm going to take a detour up I15 to Montana and over across I94/I90 to go home.
I think I want to be somewhere in western MT (mountains a must) but I don't know many areas. I liked Bozeman a lot. I honestly didn't like Missoula. I thought it was kind of dumpy? Where all do you guys live. How do you like it? What do you do for a living? I'm just a little curious as to how job opportunities are out there. I have worked in the IT field but got sick of it... and more recently have worked for FedEx as a courier. I would do IT temporarily but it's not really something I enjoy.
(What I REALLY want to do is buy some land, build a little log cabin and get myself a siberian husky or an alaskan malamute or two and my bring big dodge truck and just enjoy everything!)
thanks in advance.
(YES ITS DIESEL! but I got rid of it for a REAL diesel muhaha)

Re:It's 80* and calm in Montana.....
You'd probably like Dillon, Mt. Everything would be ok as long as you didn't drive THAT car into town ...

Dillon has a great Labor Day celebration and still run cattle drives through town, old west style.

Yeah, right. That's all some people wanna do is live in the past. Twenty acres and a mule for sister sara...HAR!!!
First off there aren't hardly any good paying jobs outside the BIG cities of Bozeman, Missoula, Great Falls or Billings. And you're competing with college kids (Missoula & Bozeman).
What we didn't need out there were anymore folks that didn't understand the way things are: You don't have wolves for pets; Subaru is the best selling car there and VW's are ok; you don't flash headlights at the guy who doesn't have them on; Western MT is suffering from lack of high paying jobs, and a gross loss of highly trained people.
Wood cutting and hauling is the best paying job around, but enviro wackos don't like us cleaning up the underbrush in the forests, yet will consistently break federal rules about riding their atv's and snowmo's on closed trails & roads.
My experience of living there was far less than expected and much less than desirable. Land is cheap, getting permits is another matter. Cost of doing business is high. Those kids in Kalispell want out of the area real bad, because there's no future for them if they stay. If you bring money to a small town like Dillon, you'll leave broke five years later. In order to survive you need to start a small business that's needed there.

hey now. I'm definitely not trying to rub any one wrong. Just my opinions. The TDI is an awesome car (50mpg can't go wrong) but I went to it from driving a locked and lifted jeep and it just didn't feel right. I LOVE MY CUMMINS/DODGE and obviously, everyone else does. Not sure what you're saying about the other things except I can see how I'd offend someone calling their town a dump. IT is great and all but being cooped up behind a CRT for 9 hours a day is just not right (for me)...

This is all very interesting. Out of curiosity, what did you do there and what finally made you get out?

Re:It's 80* and calm in Montana.....
I'm not pc (politically correct) and call things the way I see them. I had a good job digging septics and foundations, until a major player came to town, paying 18.50/hr. City Council went stratospheric and got them to reduce the payscale to $7-12/hr, saying it would upset the other employers.
Well that worked out for about eight months, until the player pulled up and left, going to Salt Lake City, where they had unlimited supply of educated workers and paying $18.50/hr is fairly common. That left 1800 of us out of work and out of health insurance. Cobra didn't apply. Went back to 'crete work.
Off season I made cabinets for homebuilders, cut timber, hauled logs & chips. Finally sold my house. Taxes damned near killed me. What I paid on a $100k house on 2.5 acres in MT, was three times higher than the very same house on 10-ac in WY! Auto insurance and vehicle plates are high too. Working in both WY & MT I was required to have both plates-double expense!
I'd lived in IL, IN, FL, GA, WY before going to MT. I've got an degree engineering and worked with concrete for decades. The best I could do in MT was $12/hr. I made $14-16/hr in WY, where the cost of living was much lower, but got higher as a result of movie stars & bunny huggers infiltrating.
You all want the same thing: a piece of land, a nice home and no worries. That's utopia. You can't find it. Alyeska is hiring field workers....pay is about $50/hr, but the cost of living is $45. Go figure. We have an old saying....Bring Money! You're gonna need it.

Reminds me of that old story: Want to become a millionaire? Easy, just start with two million.
