Iraq! However, that is not the name that is used in the Bible. The names
used in the Bible are Babylon, Land of Shinar, and Mesopotamia. The word
Mesopotamia means between the two rivers, more exactly between the
Tigris and Euphrates Rivers. The name Iraq, means country with deep
roots.

Again I'd like to know the version of the Koran used for this:

[9.11] But if they repent and keep up prayer and pay the poor-rate, they are your brethren in faith; and We make the communications clear for a people who know.
(Source Michigan University)

A search for the word "eagle" returns nothing found in the Koran.

The bible analysis seems to be correct. But let's face it- the whole world, as seen by even the educated men in theis region at the time the bible was written was not much more than Israel, Palestine, Mesopotamia and Egypt. So naturally those are mentioned very often.
Israel is mentioned most often, but not as a country, it's mentioned as a people with the same religion.

I really think that it's still amazing how gullible people are, forwarding stuff like the above completely unchecked. And how "christian" they are... there's some point about giving false witness in the christian religion somewhere...

i just forwarded (in part) your thread to the person who put this up on the internet.
i did not feel the need to belittle or question their christianity

MOOOOOOOO! There's that heard mentality again. Something's posted on the net, so it must be the absolute truth.

Quran/Koran 9:11?? That's so obviously not true it's funny.

A simple check with snopes shows this:

Claim: Quranic verse speaks of the "wrath of the Eagle cleansing the lands of Allah."

Status: False.

Example: [Collected on the Internet, 2003]

Quran (9:11) -- For it is written that a son of Arabia would awaken a fearsome Eagle. The wrath of the Eagle would be felt throughout the lands of Allah and lo, while some of the people trembled in despair still more rejoiced; for the wrath of the Eagle cleansed the lands of Allah; and there was peace.

Origins: No, this isn't a legitimate quotation from the Quran (or Koran), the sacred text of Islam. The chapter and verse citation quoted above is a leg-pull, an obvious play on the USA's (the Eagle) launching of military action against Afghanistan and Iraq (the "lands of Allah") in response to the September 11 terrorist attacks on America organized by Osama bin Laden (the "son of Arabia awakening a fearsome eagle"). That the chapter and verse selection match the date of the terrorist attacks (9:11) is another giveaway to the joke.

Depending upon which translation of the Quran one uses, the section corresponding to chapter 9, verse 11 actually reads something like this:

But if they repent and keep up prayer and pay the poor-rate, they are your brethren in faith; and We make the communications clear for a people who know.

Don't be one of the herd!

I'm sorry, I'm not trying to flame, but I see so many of these things via email and on the boards I read it just frustrates me.

I did not intend to belittle anybodies christianity, and I didn't want to hurt deep religious feelings, if I did so I'd like to apologise.
I still think that my point in the sentence about the false witness given by people who claim to be/are christians is something really grave. Especially since speaking the truth and not supporting/spreading slander is held high in christian ethics- but maybe I'm off base in keeping to what a priest told me once: Praying with your deeds is more than praying with your mouth.

I'm no biblical scholar, but I do know that 99% of what it forwarded on the internet is bunk.

I would question the following:

#10 Amos cried out in Iraq. - I am pretty sure that Amos never left Israel

#17 The wise men were from Iraq. - Maybe, maybe not, I believe that all we know is that they were "from the East."
